In preparation for the Christmas and New Year celebrations, the Federal Government, through the Federal Road Maintenance Agency (FERMA), has begun extensive renovations on key federal roads in Bauchi State. The initiative aims to ensure safer travel for road users during the festive season.
Engineer Nanpan Joroh, FERMA’s Federal Road Maintenance Engineer in Bauchi, confirmed the commencement of the project in an interview with journalists. He explained that the focus of the renovation is on enhancing road safety, especially during the high-traffic period of the yuletide.
“We are now in December, and FERMA has launched a massive campaign to maintain and patch potholes in several major roads within Bauchi State,” Joroh said. “This initiative, which we call ‘Operation Connect to Your Destination,’ is designed to ensure that travelers reach their destinations safely during the festive period and return without incident.”
The renovation efforts began last week, with FERMA crews working diligently around the clock. Roads targeted for immediate renovation include the Bauchi-Tafawa Balewa road up to the Plateau State boundary, covering 21 kilometers, and the Bauchi-Kari road to the Yobe State boundary, spanning 30.9 kilometers.
Joroh further outlined other major road projects under the 2024 budget, which are set to receive complete renovations. These include the Azare-Misau road (20.2 kilometers), which is expected to be completed in the coming week, and the Bauchi-Jos road, Bauchi-Gombe state border road, and the Kari-Yana road to Jigawa state, which will soon begin work once contractors are mobilized.
