Shehu Sani Condemns Protest by Retired Military Personnel Over Unpaid Pensions

Senator Shehu Sani, has voiced concern over the recent protest by retired military personnel in Abuja, who took to the streets over unpaid pensions and other outstanding entitlements. Sani expressed his dismay over the situation, warning that it sends a troubling message to those still in active service, who are risking their lives for the security of the nation.

The protest, which occurred on Wednesday, saw retired military officers disrupt activities at the Federal Ministry of Finance.

The ex-servicemen displayed banners and sang songs as they voiced their dissatisfaction with the non-payment of their pensions. Among their key demands were the unpaid 28% pension increment, a three-month palliative, and a N32,000 flat rate added to their pensions since July.

In a post on his X handle on Thursday, Sani lamented the fact that those who had sacrificed so much for the country now had to resort to raising placards to demand their rightful pensions. He expressed disappointment that these veterans, who had given their all for the nation’s peace and security, were left to protest for their entitlements.
