President Bola Tinubu has reversed himself again as rescinded of the appointments earlier announced.
The president rescinded the appointment of Yazid Danfulani as the Executive Secretary of the Solid Minerals Development Fund/Presidential Artisanal Gold Mining Initiative (SMDF/PAGMI).
The announcement was made in a statement issued on Friday by the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga.
The release, titled “President Tinubu Announces Key Appointments into NUC, NERDC, NEPAD, Renews the Appointment of Fatima Shinkafi in SMDF,” clarified that the cancellation was due to the absence of a vacancy in the agency.
The statement further confirmed that Fatima Umaru Shinkafi would retain her position as the Executive Secretary of SMDF/PAGMI.
According to Onanuga, “The President also approved the renewal of the appointment of Fatima Umaru Shinkafi as the executive secretary of the Solid Minerals Development Fund/Presidential Artisanal Gold Mining Initiative (SMDF/PAGMI).
“She was first appointed to the job by President Buhari and is said to be one of the driving forces behind the changes in the solid mineral sector.
“The earlier announcement about the appointment of Yazid Shehu Umar Danfulani as the Executive Secretary of the SMDF/PAGMI has been cancelled as there is no vacancy in the agency.”
Shinkafi, originally appointed by former President Muhammadu Buhari, has been lauded for her pivotal role in advancing reforms within Nigeria’s solid minerals sector.
In related developments, President Tinubu also approved the appointment of Prof. Abdullahi Ribadu as the Executive Secretary of the National Universities Commission (NUC). Prof. Ribadu, a visiting professor at the NUC, will lead the commission following this latest presidential directive.
