The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has revealed the final list of nominees for this year’s awards.
Nigeria’s Ademola Lookman makes the cut for Men’s Player of the Year.
The 27-year-old shined at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations, scoring three goals and providing one assist in seven appearances as the Super Eagles placed second.
Lookman, who also scored a remarkable hat-trick for Atalanta in the UEFA Europa League final, will face Simon Adingra, Serhou Guirassy, Achraf Hakimi, and Ronwen Williams for the trophy.
His colleague Stanley Nwabali was left off the final shortlist for Goalkeeper of the Year.
Andre Onana (Cameroon/Manchester United), Ronwen Williams (South Africa/Mamelodi Sundowns), and Yahia Fofana (Cote d’Ivoire/Angers SCO) are the stoppers in the running for the award.
Chiamaka Nnadozie, the Super Falcons goalkeeper, has been named one of three finalists for the 2024 CAF Women’s Player of the Year award.
The other two players nominated for the prestigious award are Zambian forward Barbara Banda and Moroccan Sanna Mssoudy.
The Super Eagles and Falcons have been nominated for the 2024 CAF Men’s and Women’s National Teams of the Year.
African champions, Elephants of Cote d’Ivoire and Bafana Bafana of South Africa are also nominated for the Men’s National Team of the Year.
Banyana Banyana of South Africa and Atlas Lionesses of Morocco are the other teams in contention for the Women’s National Team of the Year.
