Maj.-Gen. Edward Buba, Director of Defence Media Operations, has dismissed claims that drones used by terrorist groups in Nigeria pose a significant threat to national security. Speaking on Friday in Abuja, Buba explained that the drones used by terrorists are not military-grade and cannot effectively challenge the country’s counter-terrorism efforts.
“These are not professional drones, not military-grade drones. These are toys that they bought, modified, and attached basic items to use them,” Buba stated. He reassured the public that the military is actively addressing the situation despite the use of these drones in ongoing battles against insurgents and terrorists across the country.
Buba also refuted rumors about a foreign military base in Nigeria, specifically a French base, which has been circulating in certain quarters. He described these rumors as “mischievous” distractions, urging those spreading such claims to focus on addressing issues in their own countries. “There is no foreign base in Nigeria. We will not be a base for proximity war,” he emphasized.
The Defence spokesman reiterated the government’s commitment to ensuring the security of the country and combatting terrorism through various means, including enhancing the military’s technological capabilities.
