SAD! One Killed, 3 Injured In Bloody Delta Community Chieftaincy Title Procession
A violent clash arising from chieftaincy title conferment on an indigene of Aboh, headquarters of Ndokwa East Local Government Area, Delta State, has left one person dead and three others sustaining varying degrees of injuries in the community.
The bloody clash that was between members of opposing factions in the community, occurred during the chieftaincy title procession, causing pandemonium in the area.
Though the circumstances surrounding the clash could not be ascertained at the time of filing this report, sources said it may not be unconnected with some disagreements that preceded the event.
The development has generated tension in the area with the Chairman of Ndokwa East Local Government Area, Mr. Vincent Osilonya imposing a 7.pm to 6.am curfew in the community.
Confirming the incident yesterday, Police Public Relations Officer of the State Police Command, Mr. Bright Edafe said the deceased died in a hospital where he was taken for treatment.
Edafe said: “It was as a result of two factions that they have in the community.
“Somebody was given a chieftaincy title and part of the protocol was that once you are given the title, you will dance around the community.
“When he was dancing, he now danced to the faction of the group that was not on his side, so they attacked him.
“He that was dancing also carried some hunters who were escorting him. When they attacked him, the hunters retaliated.”
Similarly, a dependable source in the community, said those opposed to the chieftaincy title conferment had tried to stop the procession when they clashed with the hunters.
“In the process, shooting started; one person died and three other persons sustained various degrees of injuries and were taken to hospital for treatment”, the source who craved anonymity, said.
Reacting to the development, the council Chairman, Vincent Osilonya said: “the position is that we have imposed curfew in Aboh from 7.pm to 6.am while we are are speaking with them to sheath their swords.Nobody should take laws into their hands.”
He confirmed that three persons sustained injuries during the incident.

National Boundary Commission Reaffirms Commitment to its Mandate in a New Year Message
The Director-General of the National Boundary Commission (NBC), Surv. Adamu Adaji, has reaffirmed the Commission’s steadfast dedication to its mandate of fostering peaceful coexistence and promotion of trans-border cooperation across Nigeria’s internal and international borders.
This was conveyed in his New Year message to staff members, Border Communities and Nigerians at large.
The Director-General reflected on the progress made in the year 2024 and outlined a vision for 2025 rooted in enhanced collaboration, innovation, and service delivery.
“The National Boundary Commission’s core mandate is the definition and demarcation of Nigeria’s international and internal boundaries and the amicable resolution of disputes where they exist,” Adaji stated.
“This vital role underpins our collective efforts to safeguard national unity, strengthen intergovernmental relations, and promote socio-economic development.”
The year 2024 witnessed remarkable strides towards the achievement of these objectives, thanks to the support of the Federal Government and dedication of staff of the Commission as well as the cooperation of other stakeholders.
Adaji specifically urged the Commission’s workforce to redouble efforts in the new year, emphasizing that professionalism and commitment are key and the foundation of the envisaged successes.
“As we face new challenges and opportunities in 2025, I urge you to approach your duties with renewed determination and a steadfast belief in our shared vision,” he said.
Addressing the general public, Adaji gave the Commission’s assurance of continued partnership. “He stressed that the Commission understands the complexities of boundary management and will remain committed to fostering dialogue, mitigating conflicts, and ensuring transparency in all its processes”. He emphasized that “together, we will continue to work towards peaceful borders and enhanced security for all Nigerians”
“It is in this regard that the Commission will collaborate with the States to conduct induction trainings for key member of States and Local Government Boundary Committees early in the year”.
The Director-General highlighted ongoing projects, including efforts to resolve lingering boundary disputes, strengthen cross-border cooperation, and enhance public awareness of the Commission’s work. These initiatives, he noted, align with the NBC’s vision to build trust, deepen collaboration, and fulfill its promises to the Nigerian people.
He expressed gratitude to stakeholders and other partner agencies for the cooperation and contributions to the Commission’s mandate and reaffirmed the NBC’s resolve to deliver results while upholding the principles of fairness, equity, and accountability.
“As we step into 2025, we remain poised to deliver on our promises. Our commitment to fostering peace, unity, and sustainable development is stronger than ever. Together, we will build a legacy of progress and cooperation that future generations can be proud of,” Adaji concluded.
The New Year message ended with heartfelt wishes for peace, prosperity, and progress for all Nigerians in 2025. The renewed assurances, Adaji noted, underscore the Commission’s pivotal role in shaping a harmonious and unified future for the nation.

U.S. police investigate motive in New Orleans truck attack
Investigators in New Orleans were on Thursday, January 2, 2025, searching for what motivated a United States Army veteran flying an ISIS flag from his truck to plough into a crowd of New Year’s revellers.
15 people were killed, while 30 persons were injured before the assailants died in a shootout with police.
The probe was focused on whether the suspect, Shamsud-Din Jabbar, 42, a U.S. citizen from Texas who once served in Afghanistan, had help in planning the deadly attack on a city that will host the NFL Super Bowl next month.
FBI officials said they were also looking for any links between the deadly attack and a separate incident on Wednesday in which a Tesla Cybertruck exploded in flames outside the Trump International Hotel in Las Vegas, just weeks before President-elect Donald Trump returns to the White House on January 20.
The New Orleans attack injured about 30 other people, including two police officers wounded by gunfire from the suspect, taking place a mere three hours into the New Year in the historic French Quarter.
The victims included the mother of a 4-year-old who had just moved into a new apartment after getting a promotion at work, a New York financial employee and accomplished student-athlete who was visiting home for the holidays and an 18-year-old aspiring nurse from Mississippi.
“There were people everywhere,” Kimberly Strickland of Mobile, Alabama, said in an interview.
“You just heard this squeal and the rev of the engine and this huge loud impact and then the people screaming and debris – just metal – the sound of crunching metal and bodies,” he added.
Meanwhile, authorities vowed to continue to search for any evidence that Jabbar had accomplices.
One New Year’s Day tradition – the classic college football known as the Sugar Bowl – was rescheduled for Thursday afternoon. Kickoff for the game between Notre Dame and Georgia was put off for nearly 24 hours while police swept parts of the city looking for possible explosive devices and converged on neighborhoods in search of clues.
The city will also host the NFL Super Bowl on February 9, Reuters reported.
Police found weapons and a potential explosive device in the vehicle, while two potential explosive devices were found in the French Quarter and rendered safe, the FBI said.
