Ex-convict caught with human skull in Ogun burial ground

The Ogun State Community, Social Orientation, and Safety Corps otherwise known as So-Safe Corps has apprehended 54-year-old Adelani Oriyomi at a burial ground in Kere, Obada-Oko, Abeokuta, Ogun State, while allegedly attempting to exhume a human skull.
This was disclosed in a press statement issued on Tuesday by the Commander of So-Safe Corps, Soji Ganzallo, through the office of the Director of Information and Public Relations of the Corps, Assistant Commander Moruf Yusuf.
Ganzallo said, “At about 2:35 a.m. on January 21, 2025, officers of the So-Safe Corps on routine patrol observed suspicious activity on a parcel of land behind a church.
“The suspect, identified as 54-year-old Adelani Oriyomi, was spotted trying to hide.
“Once the coast seemed clear, he resumed digging the tomb to allegedly retrieve a human skull. However, the officers returned to the scene, apprehending him before he could escape.”
The statement revealed that the suspect, a resident of Kere, Obada-Oko in Ewekoro Local Government Area, confessed to the crime during interrogation.
He was said to have admitted that on January 18, 2025, he had exhumed a skull from a tomb on a plot of land behind his residence.
Oriyomi reportedly confessed that he was attempting to retrieve another skull to complete the number required for a money ritual preparation known as ‘Osole’ when he was caught.
The suspect was also said to have confessed to being a serial offender, having sold nearly ten skulls in the past.
Oriyomi, during the interrogation, also explained that he had previously been arrested for similar offences committed at Ado-Odo and served two years of imprisonment and a further six years and nine months at the Oba Correctional Centre following another conviction in Obada-Oko.
Ganzallo confirmed that the suspect and the recovered exhibit—a fully dried human skull—have been handed over to the Nigeria Police Force, Obada Divisional Headquarters, for further investigation and possible prosecution.
The So-Safe Corps Commander urged community leaders to thoroughly screen tenants and visitors to prevent harbouring undesirable individuals.
He emphasised that such vigilance could ensure 70% of home security, with the remaining 30% relying on alertness to external threats.
The Kano State Hisbah board on Tuesday renewed its crackdown on the movement and consumption of alcohol in Kano state.
The Hisbah, a Sharia police that enforces Islamic laws in the state, intercepted a vehicle conveying alcoholic drinks from Lagos to Kano.
The operation was carried out following credible intelligence reports, according to the Deputy Commander-General of the corps, Mujahideen Aminuddeen, said.
Aminuddeen told the press that operatives of the Fagge patrol command acted swiftly on the information, successfully stopping the vehicle and seizing the alcoholic beverages.
He revealed that investigations showed the consignment was sent by a woman from Lagos to Kano, with about 13 packs of alcoholic drinks recovered during the operation.
He added that the driver of the vehicle has been arrested to assist ongoing investigations, while efforts are underway to apprehend the woman who allegedly sent the alcohol.
He urged members of the public to continue reporting activities that violate accepted social norms or the provisions of Islamic law, stressing that public cooperation remains critical to the effective operations of the Hisbah Corps.
Suspected Fulani terrorists have attacked the First ECWA Church in Ayetoro Kiri, Kabba/Bunu Local Government Area of Kogi State, early on Sunday, December 14, 2025, leaving one person dead and several worshippers reportedly abducted.
According to a report by SaharaReporters, the deceased, identified only as Jayjay, was killed during the assault.
The exact number of kidnapped worshippers remains unconfirmed, as local authorities and security operatives continue to assess the situation.
This marks the second attack on a church in Okun land within weeks, heightening fears among residents and worshippers across the area.
A recent incident occurred on November 30, 2025, when armed men stormed a Cherubim and Seraphim Church in Ejiba, Yagba West Local Government Area, abducting the cleric, identified as Orlando, and other worshippers.
The attackers initially demanded ₦500 million in ransom, later reducing it to ₦200 million, giving the victims’ families a two-day ultimatum and warning of unspecified “consequences” if the demand was not met.
Residents also recalled that the Ayetoro Kiri community came under attack about three weeks ago, when armed assailants targeted a local school.
On that occasion, the community vigilante group reportedly repelled the attackers, preventing casualties and abductions.
The latest attack has reignited concerns over the deteriorating security situation in Okun land, with locals urging urgent intervention from security agencies and the Kogi State Government to protect lives and prevent further incidents.
Operatives of the Edo State Police Command have arrested a 49-year-old man, Christian Iboi, over the alleged murder of his 15-year-old son in Edo State.
The suspect is alleged to have struck the teenager with a stick after taking hard drugs, an assault that reportedly led to the boy’s death.
He was also accused of secretly burying the corpse within his family compound to conceal the crime.
The incident occurred at Uhe Community in Igueben Local Government Area of the state.
Confirming the development in a statement, the command’s spokesperson, ASP Eno Ikoedem, said preliminary investigations revealed that the suspect assaulted his son at about 7:00 p.m. on December 5, leading to the boy’s death.
She said that after the incident, the suspect dug a grave within the compound and buried the body.
According to Ikoedem, the deceased’s grandmother, who is also the suspect’s 82-year-old mother and resides in the same house, provided useful information that helped the police unravel the crime.
“The corpse has since been exhumed, while the suspect has been arrested. Investigation is ongoing,” she said.
She added that the Commissioner of Police, Edo State Command, CP Monday Agbonika, fdc, has ordered the transfer of the case to the Homicide Section of the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for thorough investigation and prosecution.
