Enugu State House of Reps’ Caucus Grieves Over Ugwu Onyeama Explosion

 

The Enugu State Caucus of the House of Representatives is grieving over a devastating tanker explosion that occurred at Ugwu Onyeama in Enugu , claiming the lives of 11 people ¹.

The incident happened on Saturday, and the caucus has described it as “one incident too many,” calling for thorough investigations into the recurring tanker explosions across the country.

In a statement signed by the State Caucus Leader, Rep. Nnolim Nnaji , the caucus commiserated with the Enugu State Government, the families of the victims, and those injured in the explosion.

The caucus also commended the Enugu State Governor Barrister Peter Ndubisi Mba for showing empathy through his personal visit to the accident spot and subsequently directing the urgent evacuation of the injured victims to the Enugu State University Teaching Hospital, (ESUTTH) for their adequate treatment at the instance of the State Government.

The statement equally applauded the Governor for his decision to fix the deteriorated portion of the Ugwu Onyeama Federal Road at the expense of the state government to save the lives of the traveling public even as he directed the state Ministry of Transport and the Sector Command of the Federal. Road Safety Commission, (FRSC) to carry out proper inspection of all fuel laden trucks to ensure that they were road worthy and anti fuel spill installed on them.

Governor Peter Mbah had expressed deep grief over the incident and commended the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) and kind-hearted Nigerians for their rescue efforts.

The Caucus also took the opportunity to praise Enugu State Governor, Barrister Ndubisi Mba for his commitment to good governance, investments in infrastructure, education, health, and security, which have positioned Enugu State as a prime investment destination in the southeast.
