The state government of Kano has accused the state command of the police of Nigeria of an attempt to disrupt an annual religious celebration.
During a press conference in the Kano Emir’s Palace on Friday evening, the Commissioner for Information and Internal Affairs, Ibrahim Abdullahi Waiya, refuted the concerns that were previously expressed by the police.
The Kano Police Command indicated on Friday that it had received intelligence that suggests that Probable terrorists were planning to focus public meetings In important areas in the entire state.
In response, Waiya claimed that the police had wrongly impeded the location for the National Tijjaniyya Maulud, a religious event that is celebrated annually for 39 years.
He emphasized that Kano State recognizes as a historical hub of Islamic science and religious harmony, remains dedicated to promoting and supporting initiatives that encourage peace, unity and spiritual development.
“This action is not only unnecessary, but also not justified, because there is no report of any safety threat in the state of canoe that would justify such an extreme measure. The presence of security staff at the location of this important religious activity is unjustified and unacceptable, ” Waiya said.
Said the commissioner despite police action; The Maulud would continue as planned in Kofar Mata Stadium and interested parties ensure that the state government would not allow any disruption.
“The National Tijjaniyya Maulud will be held as planned from 8:00 am in Kofar Mata Stadium. A legitimate registered and recognized body organizes this religious meeting, and any attempt to hinder it would be a violation of the rights of citizens at the legal meeting and religious practice in Nigeria“Waiya explained.
He also called on the federal government to immediately remove its security personnel from the location, and emphasized that Kofar Mata is owned by the government of Kano.
There is no reason for any external authority to disturb a legal religious meeting. The state of canoe has consistently represented a model of peace and religious tolerance, and we will not tolerate any form of intimidation or unjust interference in our local matters, he said.
