Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rep. Benjamin Kalu, has expressed profound sorrow over the tragic fuel tanker explosion in Enugu State that claimed several lives and left many injured.
Naijablitznews.com recalled that the devastating incident occurred on Saturday along the 9th Mile 82 Division Expressway, specifically at the Ugwuonyeama section, when a petrol-laden tanker collided with other vehicles, sparking a fire that resulted in significant loss of life.
In a statement by the Special Adviser Press Affairs, Udora Orizu, the Deputy Speaker extended his condolences to the families of the victims, as well as to the government and people of Enugu State, praying for strength to endure the loss.
Emphasising the recurrence of such tragedies, referencing a similar incident recently in Niger State, he called on the Federal Government to expedite the rehabilitation of the 9th Mile Expressway and other critical roads to prevent future disasters.
The Deputy Speaker reiterated the need for proactive safety measures and public awareness campaigns to mitigate risks associated with fuel transportation.
The Deputy Speaker reaffirmed the commitment of the National Assembly to supporting the Federal Government through legislative actions and budgetary provisions aimed at improving road infrastructure and enhancing public safety.
