Residents of Ungwan Ate in the Kachia Local Government Area of Kaduna State on Wednesday, organized a protest in response to the ongoing attacks and kidnappings that have affected their community and surrounding villages.
The demonstrators, numbering in the hundreds, effectively blocked the Ungwan Ate–Ungwan Mission road along the Kaduna-Kachia highway, urging both the federal and Kaduna state governments, as well as security agencies, to take immediate measures to safeguard their lives and property.
The protesters voiced their discontent regarding the escalating violence in their area, with many likening their homes to war zones due to the persistent threats.
One participant, Mathew Yakubu, informed reporters that gunmen had assaulted Ungwan Ate on Tuesday night, instilling fear in the community for over two hours and resulting in the abduction of one individual.
“We are not safe anymore,” Yakubu said. “These bandits strike at will, and we’ve been left to fend for ourselves. The government and security forces must act quickly before more lives are lost.”
Carrying placards with messages such as “The Kaduna government says it has made peace with the bandits, but we are being killed every day in Kachia” and “We cannot go to farms, as the majority of us depend on farming,” the protesters voiced their anger and desperation. Other signs read, “Uncountable souls are in the bush suffering for offenses they know nothing about” and “We can no longer sleep with our eyes closed. Who is killing us?”
The protest comes amid a dramatic surge in kidnappings and violence across Kachia Local Government Area, with neighboring communities like Gadanji, Ungwan Wage, Ungwan Alhaji, Agunu Dutse, Maro, and Ungwan Dauje also enduring frequent terrorist attacks. The residents are pleading for government intervention before the situation worsens further.

Court sentences man to hand amputation for cutting off 14-yr-old hand

The Gombe State High Court 5, under the leadership of Justice A.M. Haruna, has sentenced a young man named Abdullahi Suleiman to hand amputation after being found guilty of severing the hand of a 14-year-old boy, Khalifa Abubakar, with a machete.
The incident occurred on February 12, 2022, in the town of Moddibo, within Yamaltu Deba Local Government Area of Gombe State, during a wedding celebration that spiraled into a violent altercation around 11 p.m. when the groom expelled all the guests due to the noise that had escalated.
As the guests were leaving the event, Abdullahi Suleiman, who hails from Wajari village, used a machete to disperse the crowd alongside other youths. Khalifa Abubakar, whose sandal fell during his escape, stopped to retrieve it. However, Abdullahi attacked him with the machete, severing his right hand completely.
Khalifa’s relatives quickly rushed him to the Federal Teaching Hospital in Gombe, where he received medical attention for the amputation.
Following the incident, Khalifa’s family filed a report at the Deba Police Station. However, Abdullahi Suleiman was initially granted bail. This prompted the government to intervene, and the State Prosecutor, Barrister Y.G. Ahmad, filed charges before the Gombe State High Court, Case No. GM/88c/2022.
During the trial, the court heard five witnesses from the prosecution side, including Khalifa Abubakar, all of whom confirmed that Abdullahi Suleiman was responsible for the crime. Three of the witnesses were eyewitnesses who testified that Abdullahi was the one who struck Khalifa during the altercation.
The doctor who treated Khalifa was also called to testify, providing evidence of the medical treatment he administered.
On the defendant’s side, two witnesses were presented, but their testimonies did not provide strong evidence to counter the prosecution’s case. After evaluating the evidence, the court found Abdullahi Suleiman guilty of the offense.
Upon confirming the conviction, the court took into account Abdullahi Suleiman’s plea for forgiveness and expression of remorse. However, his lawyer, Y.A. Waziri, requested the court allow them to buy a prosthetic hand for Khalifa. The court, however, rejected this request.

An alleged ex-boyfriend of UNIZIK student who confronted a lecturer has revealed details about her.
The ex-boyfriend claimed that he ended their relationship due to her bad character, lack of respect, and inability to cook.
He made the claim in a post on X
According to him, their breakup was a result of her poor attitude, as she allegedly speaks to people disrespectfully and lacks basic homemaking skills.
His words: “I want to tell you something. This girl who fought her lecturer was my girlfriend—now my ex. Her character is the reason we’re no longer together. She doesn’t know how to talk to people, she can’t cook, and she has no respect.”
“The only thing she knows is making videos. I used to do everything for her, yet she had no regard for anyone.”

The notorious bandit leader Kachalla Dan Lukuti, known for orchestrating fatal assaults in Zamfara and Katsina states, has reportedly died after being afflicted by a mysterious illness that caused him to bark like a dog prior to his death.
Sources familiar with his activities disclosed that Lukuti became ill approximately one week ago, displaying unusual symptoms such as extreme aggression, uncontrollable spasms, and continuous barking that resembled the sounds of a rabid dog.
His gang members, frightened by the peculiar nature of his condition, kept their distance and were unable to assist him. Ultimately, he succumbed to the illness.
Lukuti operated from the Kokonba forest in Tsafe Local Government Area of Zamfara State, leading a group of over 50 armed men. He was responsible for multiple attacks in Dan Jiloga, Rijiya, Zonai, Magami, and along the Gusau-Magami highway, extending his criminal activities into Faskari Local Government Area of Katsina State.
Despite his reign of terror, his final days were filled with suffering. Witnesses reported that he howled and barked in agony until he died.
Overcome by fear and superstition, his gang forced villagers in Kizara to conduct his burial, laying him to rest at the local primary school.
His mysterious death has sparked speculation, with some attributing it to rabies, while others believe it was spiritual punishment for his years of brutality.
His demise comes amid intensified military operations against bandit hideouts across the Northwest.
