Why we zoned 2027 presidential ticket to S’East –LP Chairman ,Abure

By Kayode Sanni-Arewa
The National Chairman of the Labour Party, Julius Abure on Sunday said zoning the presidential ticket of LP again to the South-East ahead of the 2027 election was the best option.
Abure also pledged that the party is still available to support Ndigbo to realise the ambition of ruling the country in future.
The party’s national chair disclosed this at a rally organised by LP members from the South-East ahead of the Abuja Area Council election slated for next year.
While assuring the aspirants who came in their numbers that the party would not impose candidates on them, Abure tasked the zonal leaders with the need to realign with other sections of the country and prioritise unity if they hoped to win the presidential election in 2027.
“Before the 2023 general election, I used to believe erroneously that South East people were not united. But when Peter Obi joined the party, and I had the privilege of campaigning for him across Nigeria, I discovered that the Igbos are the most united, industrious, hardworking and fearless.
“That is why today, I have no regrets that despite all odds, we zoned the presidential ticket of our party to South East. We powerfully and courageously did that in the 2023 general election. But I think that the Igbos must also go back to the drawing board.
“The Igbos need more realignment with the other sections of the country.
I also think that they should be strong, firm and united with leadership. I want to assure you that the Labour Party is still ready and available to support Ndigbo to realise the ambition of ruling the country in future.”
Continuing, Abure vowed that the party has no anointed candidate and assured the aspirants that the primaries will be credible, free and fair.
According to him, the coming election in the Federal Capital Territory will be between the Labour Party and ‘others.’
He said, “The reason why Nigeria and other political parties are in trouble is because leaders always want to subvert the wishes and aspirations of the people. As the National Chairman of LP, I stand to discourage that in our party.
“So in this coming election, only members of the party will be the ones that will determine who becomes the candidates of the party.”

TCN envisages seven-hour blackout in parts of Abuja

By Kayode Sanni-Arewa
The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) says there will be a seven-hour power outage in some parts of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
In a statement, TCN’s General Manager of Public Affairs, Ndidi Mbah, said the affected areas will experience blackout on Saturday, February 22, and Sunday, February 23, 2025, from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm each day.
She attributed the action to scheduled annual preventive maintenance on two transformers.
“The Transmission Company of Nigeria informs the public that its maintenance crew will conduct annual preventive maintenance on the 2x100MVA, TR3 & TR4 transformers at the Apo 132/33kV Transmission Substation in Abuja,” the statement read.
“The planned power interruptions are unavoidable, as Abuja DisCo will be unable to receive bulk power supply from the transformers during the maintenance period. Power supply will be restored to the affected areas upon completion of the maintenance exercise.”

Mbah explained that on Saturday, February 22, the power disruptions will affect the National Hospital, G2 Injection Station, Garki, Area 1, and Asokoro for seven hours.
According to the statement, areas including Apo Legislative Quarters, Apo Resettlement, Gudu, Apo Mechanic, and surrounding areas will also experience a seven-hour power outage.
Mbah explained that the interruption is necessary as Abuja Electricity Distribution Company will be unable to receive bulk power supply from the affected transformers during the maintenance period.
TCN apologised for any inconvenience caused to the affected customers during this time.
“Power supply will be restored once the maintenance exercise is completed. We apologise for any inconvenience this may cause the affected electricity customers,” the company said.
