An APC leader and former Commissioner of Finance, Olorogun Bernard Okumagba, has expressed deep sadness over the passage of elder statesman Chief Edwin Kiagbodo Clark, describing his demise as a great loss to Delta State, the Niger Delta, and the entire nation.
In a statement mourning the revered leader, Okumagba said, “I am saddened to hear about the passing of our dearly beloved Chief Edwin Clark, a true Nigerian elder statesman and icon. I offer my heartfelt condolences to his loved ones, our people in Delta State, the Niger Delta Region, and the entire nation.”
He described Chief Clark as a “committed statesman” who dedicated more than seven decades of his life to public service, holding various leadership positions, including State Commissioner for Education, Federal Commissioner (Minister) for Information, and Senator. He noted that Clark was instrumental in shaping Nigeria’s political landscape and remained a strong advocate for equity, development, and good governance.
“As a respected leader of the Niger Delta, Chief Clark worked tirelessly to promote peace, unity, and regional development. His contributions to the establishment of the University of Benin and the founding of Edwin Clark University in 2015 reflect his unwavering commitment to education and youth empowerment,” Okumagba added.
Offering his deepest sympathies to the Clark family and the people of Kiagbodo, Okumagba said, “May you find comfort in the knowledge that his life’s work has made a lasting impact on our nation. May his memory continue to inspire us all to carry on his legacy.” He urged Nigerians to honor Chief Clark by striving for a united, prosperous, and peaceful nation, adding that his commitment to national unity and development should serve as a guiding light for future generations.
