The Edo State House of Assembly has fired all political appointees attached to its members, with lawmakers unanimously approving the decision.
The Edo State House of Assembly has dismissed all political appointees linked to its members.
The decision was announced during a plenary session in Benin on Wednesday, February 19.
All 24 lawmakers unanimously agreed to revoke the appointments. The Speaker explained that those affected include senior special advisers, special advisers, and other political appointees. He assured that they would still receive their February salaries.
The Speaker further stated that these officials were originally appointed when the Eighth Assembly was inaugurated in June 2023. He said, “I believe it has been nearly two years now, and the House has graciously agreed that these appointees, including special advisers and senior special advisers, should be relieved of their duties as of today, 19 February.”
He added that further discussions would be held to determine the next steps. “We will convene subsequently to determine the next course of action. However, they will receive their salaries for this month,” he noted.
