PDP shifts defection ceremony in Benue over herdsmen invasion
The Benue state Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has postponed its planned mega defection ceremony in Otukpo and Agatu local government areas of the state.
The defection ceremony, slated for January 17 and 18, was shifted to a date yet to be announced following recent attacks on Otobi-Akpa in Otukpo LGA and some parts of the Apa-Agatu Federal Constituency.
The attacks led to the killing of several persons, including the PDP House of Assembly candidate in the 2023 election, Hon. Ochi Igbabe, by armed herdsmen.
The senator representing Benue South Senatorial District and Senate Minority Leader, Sen. Abba Moro, gave the directive postponing the scheduled mega decamping ceremony of the APC, ADC, LP, and other parties to the PDP in Agatu and Otukpo local government areas.
The postponement is aimed at mourning the souls of innocent constituents who lost their lives in the unfortunate attacks.
According to a statement by the Media Adviser to the senator, Emmanuel Eche’Ofun John, new dates for Agatu and Otukpo would be announced in due course.
The senator regretted any inconvenience the postponement might have caused those billed to attend the events.
He prayed that God would grant eternal rest to the souls of the deceased and give their family members the fortitude to bear the irreparable losses.

Knight Renounces Christianity Over Church’s Failure to Acknowledge Late Ubah’s Role in Cathedral Project
A Knight of the Catholic Church, Sir James Louise, popularly known as Ebube Anaedo, on Wednesday publicly renounced Christianity following the Catholic Church’s refusal to acknowledge the contributions of the late Senator Ifeanyi Ubah to the construction of the Our Lady of Assumption Cathedral in Nnewi, Anambra State.
The cathedral project was initiated by the late Senator Ubah, who volunteered to single-handedly fund and build the edifice for the Church. He reportedly financed and supervised the project to over 85 per cent completion before the posting of a new Bishop, Dr. Jonas-Benson Okoye, to the Nnewi Diocese in 2022.
Upon assuming office, Bishop Okoye reportedly ordered Senator Ubah to disengage from the cathedral project. This directive, according to available information, led to disagreements between the Bishop and the Senator, as many stakeholders insisted that credit for the cathedral’s construction should not be transferred to others after Ubah had invested substantial personal resources into the project.
Tensions resurfaced on Wednesday during the official inauguration of the cathedral, an event attended by prominent personalities. Sir James Louise openly protested, describing it as unjust that Senator Ifeanyi Ubah was neither mentioned in the inauguration brochure nor acknowledged verbally, despite his overwhelming contribution to the construction of the edifice.
In a video currently circulating on social media, the visibly distressed Catholic Knight was seen breaking down in tears shortly after the Mass. He lamented that the late Senator’s name was completely omitted from the list of contributors.
Sir Louise was also seen removing his shoes and cap—items symbolising his knighthood—while declaring his decision to renounce Christianity.
“This is my last day as a Christian. I am done. This is awful,” he said.
“How can anyone believe that this cathedral, which Ifeanyi Ubah laboured tirelessly to build, could be inaugurated without mentioning his name? This is wrong. I am done with Christianity. This is my last day as a Christian.”
The video has since generated widespread outrage across social media platforms, with many commentators condemning the actions of the Catholic Church and calling for accountability.
As of the time of filing this report, the Nnewi Catholic Diocese had yet to officially respond to the incident
