Anambra State: Six killed as truck rams into vehicles, pedestrians

The accident, which occurred on Saturday night at around 9 p.m., at Upper Iweka axis of Onitsha, involved a truck that lost control and rammed into pedestrians, two tricycles, and a commercial bus filled with passengers.

A tragic auto crash at the Upper Iweka axis of Onitsha has claimed the lives of six people, with several others injured.

The accident, which occurred on Saturday night at around 9 p.m., at Upper Iweka axis of Onitsha, involved a truck that lost control and rammed into pedestrians, two tricycles, and a commercial bus filled with passengers.

Confirming the incident, the Anambra State Police Command Public Relations Officer, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, stated that it had taken over the scene to maintain order and facilitate investigations.

Ikenga in a statement issued on Sunday said, “The accident claimed the lives of six persons and left a few others with various degrees of injury.

“The aim of the takeover is to ensure order in the area as well as to facilitate investigations into the incident.

“Eyewitness accounts reveal that the accident occurred as a result of loss of control of a truck that rammed into pedestrians, two tricycles and a commercial bus loaded with passengers.”

The police spokesperson said that some of the injured are currently receiving treatment in the hospital, while the deceased has been deposited in the morgue and some relatives of the victims have been contacted and debriefed about the incident.

“To this end, the Command while condoling the families and friends of the deceased and wishing the injured a quick recovery, cautions drivers to always do the necessary checks before plying the road,” he added.

Suspected Fulani terrorists have attacked the First ECWA Church in Ayetoro Kiri, Kabba/Bunu Local Government Area of Kogi State, early on Sunday, December 14, 2025, leaving one person dead and several worshippers reportedly abducted.

According to a report by SaharaReporters, the deceased, identified only as Jayjay, was killed during the assault.

The exact number of kidnapped worshippers remains unconfirmed, as local authorities and security operatives continue to assess the situation.

This marks the second attack on a church in Okun land within weeks, heightening fears among residents and worshippers across the area.

A recent incident occurred on November 30, 2025, when armed men stormed a Cherubim and Seraphim Church in Ejiba, Yagba West Local Government Area, abducting the cleric, identified as Orlando, and other worshippers.

The attackers initially demanded ₦500 million in ransom, later reducing it to ₦200 million, giving the victims’ families a two-day ultimatum and warning of unspecified “consequences” if the demand was not met.

Residents also recalled that the Ayetoro Kiri community came under attack about three weeks ago, when armed assailants targeted a local school.

On that occasion, the community vigilante group reportedly repelled the attackers, preventing casualties and abductions.

The latest attack has reignited concerns over the deteriorating security situation in Okun land, with locals urging urgent intervention from security agencies and the Kogi State Government to protect lives and prevent further incidents.

Father allegedly kills, buries teenage son in Edo

Operatives of the Edo State Police Command have arrested a 49-year-old man, Christian Iboi, over the alleged murder of his 15-year-old son in Edo State.

The suspect is alleged to have struck the teenager with a stick after taking hard drugs, an assault that reportedly led to the boy’s death.

He was also accused of secretly burying the corpse within his family compound to conceal the crime.

The incident occurred at Uhe Community in Igueben Local Government Area of the state.

Confirming the development in a statement, the command’s spokesperson, ASP Eno Ikoedem, said preliminary investigations revealed that the suspect assaulted his son at about 7:00 p.m. on December 5, leading to the boy’s death.

She said that after the incident, the suspect dug a grave within the compound and buried the body.

According to Ikoedem, the deceased’s grandmother, who is also the suspect’s 82-year-old mother and resides in the same house, provided useful information that helped the police unravel the crime.

“The corpse has since been exhumed, while the suspect has been arrested. Investigation is ongoing,” she said.

She added that the Commissioner of Police, Edo State Command, CP Monday Agbonika, fdc, has ordered the transfer of the case to the Homicide Section of the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for thorough investigation and prosecution.

The Delta State Police Command has released official contact numbers of area commanders, DPOs, and tactical commanders phone lines.

The police disclosed this in a press release made available by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Edafe Bright, on Sunday in Asaba.

The press release reads, “In line with its strategic drive to deepen transparency, enhance accountability, and strengthen public confidence in policing, the Commissioner of Police, Delta State Command, CP Olufemi Abaniwonda, has approved the public release of the official contact phone numbers of all Area Commanders, Divisional Police Officers (DPOs), and Tactical Commanders across the State.”

“The directive is intended to improve accessibility to police leadership at all operational levels and to facilitate prompt reporting of crimes, effective intelligence sharing, and swift response to security concerns.”
