The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board Registrar, Prof. Ishaq Oloyede, has said the body has deployed a decoy website to apprehend candidates seeking to cheat in the 2025 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination Mock examination.

Oloyede disclosed this to reporters on Thursday while monitoring the exercise at a CBT centre in Bwari, Abuja, the nation’s capital.

He expressed concerns that some candidates patronise rogue websites to cheat in the exam, adding that JAMB has also opened a decoy website targeting such individuals.

Oloyede said, “We need to let the students know that the best way to pass the examination, UTME in particular, is to study. We are aware of some rogue websites asking people to come and pay so that they can help. It cannot work. We have also opened our own rogue website. As of this morning, about 180 students have paid.

“So those students, because to attempt to cheat is already an infraction. So those who paid into that account, looking for questions, we are going to deal firmly with them.

“In many of the institutions, UTME is not a school-based examination. We register students individually. That is why we tell the students not to give out their registration numbers. Do not register by proxy.

“Do not give your registration number to anybody. Because some of these schools want to be able to brag that, oh, my 10 students from my school scored 280. There was a state where even the governor of a state was misinformed, and they were celebrating nothing. So this type of thing that people want to cut corners, we are abreast of all this. And we are doing everything possible (to stop it).

“We have about 180 of them. And we are going to deal with them firmly. We are going to cancel their results, both UTME and DE.”

Oloyede also advised candidates to steer clear of fraudulent websites and individuals claiming to offer assistance during the examination.

“Some of them are paying N30,000 for something that will never work. And to some, when I look at those who have paid us this money, I smile,” he added.

The Western Zone of the Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities on has rejected the resolution of the Governing Council of the Federal University, Oye Ekiti, Ekiti State, which absolved the Vice Chancellor of the institution, Prof. Abayomi Fasina, of sexual harassment.

The Governing Council absolved Fasina of allegations of sexual harassment.

The Registrar and Secretary to the council, Mufutau Ibrahim, said the council took the decision at its 8th Extraordinary Meeting held on Tuesday.

In a statement issued by the National Vice President of SSANU Western Zone, Dr Abdussobur Salaam, and made available to PUNCH Online, the union faulted the institutuion council’s resolution, saying the governing council was not being fair and just on the matter.

According to the statement, one of the wrongs of the process was the continued stay in the office of the vice chancellor during the pendency of the investigation into the matter.

It said that had compromised the fairness of the process.

The statement read,” The governing council acknowledged the existence of audio recordings between the vice-chancellor and Engineer Folashade Adebayo gladdens our hearts.

“While we note that the governing council admitted that the recordings were not subjected to any forensic evaluation, we are taken aback that rather than focus on the contents of the recordings, the governing council attempted to gaslight the public by querying why the recordings were made and concluding it was for the purpose of blackmail.

“We find it further shameful that the council did not query the spate of queries that followed the rejection of the offer by Professor Fashina in his bid to intimidate Engineer Folashade Adebayo into submission.

“We are also further disappointed that the Governing Council did not see anything wrong in a conversation where the Vice-Chancellor compromised and impugned other principal officers of the university, especially the Registrar and Bursar, in a bid to sweet-talk Engineer Folashade Adebayo to accept his advances.

“To further claim that Engineer Folashade Adebayo never made any complaint of sexual harassment against Professor Abayomi Fasina is a barefaced and brazen lie.

“Consequently, and in view of the compromised decisions of the governing council on this issue, the Western Zone of SSANU rejects in totality, the various sanctions meted out to Engineer Folashade Adebayo for allegedly bringing the name of the institution into disrepute.”

To this end, the SSANU called on the Nigeria Labour Congress and other stakeholders in the protection of the rights of Nigerians to wade into the matter, which, according to it, “has the potential of becoming a cause of national industrial unrest in our university system.”

“We have begun mobilisation of all 26 universities in the Western Zone of SSANU for a possible industrial action, and we shall not stop until our demands are met,” the statement added.

The Lagos State Government has commenced electronic registration for the 2025 Universal Basic Education by Continuous Assessment Scores and Placement Test.

This development is part of the state’s efforts to provide quality education to its citizens.
According to a circular signed by the Director of the Lagos State Examinations Board, on Monday, Mr Orunsolu Adebayo, the registration would run from Monday, January 27 to Friday, April 18, 2025.

It read, “Only primary six pupils in public and approved private primary schools in Lagos State are eligible to participate in the UBE by CAS and Placement Test.

“Registration is free for public primary schools, while pupils of approved private primary schools are required to pay N5,000 per candidate through the Lagos State Central Billing System.”

It added that the Lagos State Examinations Board had also approved Yoruba Language as one of the subjects for testing the knowledge and thinking ability of pupils sitting for the Placement Test by CAS.

Adebayo, assured stakeholders and parents that measures were in place to ensure seamless and hitch-free registration.

He emphasised that no child would be left unattended during the registration process.
