Reps to Set Up Committee to Monitor Situation in Rivers State

By Gloria Ikibah
The House of Representatives will set up a special committee on Tuesday, April 15, 2025, to oversee activities in Rivers State.
This move comes after the National Assembly approved a declaration of a state of emergency in the state.
Naijablitznews.com recalled that the declaration was made by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, and later reviewed and adjusted by lawmakers.
One key change made by the National Assembly was to give itself the power to supervise how the emergency measures are carried out, instead of leaving it to the Federal Executive Council.
The committee, made up of selected members of the House, will ensure that the emergency rules are followed properly and that actions taken in Rivers State respect the constitution and rule of law.
This step is part of the House’s duty to make sure government actions remain transparent and lawful, especially in times of crisis.

Members of the Committee include:

1. Rt. Hon. Prof. Julius Ihonvbere – Chairman

2. Rt. Hon. Ali Isa J.C. – Deputy Chairman
