The Katsina State Government has launched a new fleet of hybrid buses as part of Governor Dikko Umar Radda’s strategy to modernise public transportation and encourage environmentally friendly mobility across the state.
The buses, which operate on both fuel and electricity, are designed to lower carbon emissions, reduce fuel expenses, and provide residents with a more efficient means of transport.
The initiative will enhance movement within Katsina, Daura, and Funtua, with a view to extending services to other parts of the state in future.
The unveiling ceremony took place at the Woeka Company facility in Abuja’s Idu Industrial Area.
Ambassador Oshi Bernard, a business partner in the project, praised the Governor Radda’s commitment to sustainable development and highlighted the initiative as a clear reflection of his dedication to improving the lives of citizens and creating opportunities for young people in Katsina State.
“We want to specially thank Governor Diko for giving us this great opportunity to promote a world-class project,” Bernard said.
Project Manager of Zhong Tong Bus, Wei Yanbin, revealed that the state government plans to acquire 30 city buses as part of the initial phase of the transport project.
He explained that the company will also build three bus terminals and set up 60 bus stops along selected routes to support the new transport system.
“This project will commence this October and will be delivered within six months,” Wei said.
Highlighting the advantages of the hybrid technology, he stated that the buses are designed to combine diesel and electric power, significantly reducing fuel usage and emissions. Each bus is built to accommodate between 45 and 55 passengers, ensuring greater efficiency and comfort for daily commuters.
Officials of Katsina State noted that the initiative is in line with the state’s commitment to creating a safe, affordable and environmentally sustainable transport system that meets the mobility needs of its expanding population.
