Nigerian Afrobeats singer Ayra Starr has opened up about life in New York, weeks after she relocated from Lagos to the American city following a management deal with Roc Nation.

In a new Substack post titled ‘I’m not scared, I promise,’ Starr got candid about loneliness and cold in New York, describing her apartment as “almost-empty” and the city as “a walk-in freezer.”

The singer revealed that sometimes she struggles with the regret of relocating.

“It’s so cold it feels like the city is actively trying to unalive my motivation. It’s the kind of cold that makes you realize happiness was just a summer hallucination, and I can’t stop the tiny voice at the back of my mind sarcastically saying, ‘Who sent you work?’”

Ayra Starr added that she would have been enjoying Detty December with her fellow citizens in Nigeria but she is stuck in the cold and loneliness of New York because she took a rebellious risk.

The ‘Rush’ crooner said she is now in her “nobody gets me era,” stressing that she no longer cares about proving herself to others.

Billionaire father of Nigerian music star Davido, Dr. Adedeji Adeleke, on Wednesday intervened in the long-running controversy surrounding a child identified as Anu Lupo, after online claims linking the child to his son.

The issue, which has repeatedly resurfaced on social media, stems largely from allegations made by controversial commentator Kemi Olunloyo, who has claimed that Davido fathered a child named Anu.

Briefing the media on Wednesday, Dr. Adeleke said the briefing was convened to respond to what he described as persistent falsehoods surrounding the matter. “The reason why I called this press conference is for us to address this issue properly,” he said.

Dr. Adeleke alleged that Olunloyo had targeted his son for years with damaging narratives, stating that “everything she says about David is always negative, trying to put him in a bad light with the public.”

He disclosed that he first became aware of the matter in 2014 after receiving a letter from a lawyer in Ibadan alleging that Davido had impregnated and abandoned a woman. “I received a letter in 2014 from a lawyer in Ibadan alleging that my son got somebody pregnant and abandoned the person with the child,” he said, adding that he took immediate steps to address the allegation at the time.

The business mogul said renewed concern arose after social media posts, allegedly written in the name of the child, began circulating online. He questioned the legality of such actions, saying, “I’m not even sure if it’s legal for someone to impersonate a minor.”

Dr. Adeleke further revealed that he was contacted by a woman who identified herself as the sister of Anu’s mother and who resides in Abuja. Reading from the message during the briefing, he quoted her as saying, “I just wanted to clarify that the account is not run by me, Ayo or my mom.”

According to Dr. Adeleke, the woman stated that the family had severed ties with Olunloyo years ago. “The account is run by Kemi Olunloyo, whom we have cut ties with years ago,” the message read, adding that the family had repeatedly asked her to stop posting about the child.

Dr. Adeleke expressed concern about the emotional and reputational impact of the controversy, particularly on the families involved, and reiterated that the Adeleke family had no connection to the online accounts being used to make the claims.

The Adeleke family has consistently maintained that the allegations linking Davido to the child are false, while Olunloyo has continued to stand by her claims.

The press conference marks the most detailed public response yet from Davido’s father, as the family seeks to formally address the controversy amid renewed public attention.

Wizkid has addressed the escalating online clash between his fans and Seun Kuti.

Recall that the dispute began last week after Seun accused Wizkid’s fanbase, popularly known as Wizkid FC, of disrespecting his father’s legacy by comparing Fela to the Grammy-winning star.

On Tuesday evening, Wizkid took to his Instagram story, where he appeared to vent his anger at Seun through a series of posts.

Wizkid first shared a video of a woman delivering a fiery critique of Seun in Yoruba.

She suggested that Wizkid’s international success has helped keep younger generations interested in Fela’s legacy.

“Seun Kuti’s family, is this how you will be looking at this bro until he enters the market because he has been using 7 days and 7 nights to act insane?” she asked.

“You are cursing people’s children that much; you and your father will be unfortunate. If not for Wizkid, do you think anyone would care about your father, or do you think we’re still in 1990?

“Your father succeeded, yet you’re this miserable? Is it only pants and weed you inherited from him?

Wizkid then went further by directly attacking Seun in a string of blunt posts, in which he declared himself greater than Fela and insulted the Afrobeat singer.

“Pu**y boy @thenigbirdkuti ok i big pass your papa!!! wetin u one do? Fool at 40!,” he wrote.

“@bigbirdkuti I’m Big Wiz everyday bigger than your papa!! Wetin u one do fool?”

“Hungry bastard.”
