Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has denied allegations by Russia that his country launched a drone attack on one of President Vladimir Putin’s residences.

Russia’s Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov claimed Kyiv had launched an attack overnight on Putin’s state residence in the northwestern Novgorod region of Russia.

While it remains unclear where Putin was at the time of the alleged attack, Russia said it would now review its position in peace negotiations.

Zelensky dismissed the claim as “typical Russian lies,” intended to give the Kremlin an excuse to continue attacks on Ukraine.

He said that Russia had previously targeted government buildings in Kyiv.

“It is critical that the world doesn’t stay silent now. We cannot allow Russia to undermine the work on achieving a lasting peace,” Zelensky stated on X.

In a statement shared on Telegram on Monday, Lavrov said all of the 91 drones he claimed were launched at Putin’s residence were intercepted and destroyed by Russian air defence systems.

He observed that there were no reports of casualties or damage as a result of the attack.

“Given the final degeneration of the criminal Kyiv regime, which has switched to a policy of state terrorism, Russia’s negotiating position will be revised,” Lavrov stated.

The Russian foreign minister, however, added that his country does not intend to exit the negotiating process with the US.

All nominees have been directed to report to the Department of State Services (DSS) office in Ijebu-Ode for further instructions instead of the planned meet-and-greet with Awujale candidates earlier scheduled to take place at the Aafin Awujale.

The directive came via the Awujale Kingmakers Council which officially cancelled the event in a formal letter dated January 20, 2026, addressed to the Chairman of the Fusengbuwa Ruling House, Otunba Lateef Owoyemi, his deputy, Otunba Dokun Ajidagba; and the Vice Chairman, Prof. Fassy Yusuf, outlining the sudden change in plans.

The council, which explained that the decision to redirect nominees to the DSS office made the earlier engagement at the Aafin Awujale unnecessary, specifically emphasised that all nominees were required to present themselves at the DSS office located along NTA Road, beside the State Psychiatric Hospital, off Igbeba Road, Ijebu-Ode, by 11:00 am prompt on Wednesday.

While the letter also emphasised strict compliance and punctuality, underscoring the importance of adhering to official directives, the council expressed regret for any inconvenience the cancellation might cause, highlighting that the decision was necessary to align with security and administrative protocols.

The formal notice, which was signed by Chief Ayotunde Ola Odulaja, Secretary of the Awujale Afobaje Council, urged all concerned parties to comply fully with the instructions, adding that nominees and associated stakeholders were expected to adhere strictly to the directive, reporting promptly and avoiding delays.

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Nasarawa State has suspended its Chairman, Godwin Alaku Williams, over allegations of anti-party activities said to be threatening the unity and growth of the party in the state.

Naija News reports that the suspension was announced by the party’s Transitional Leadership Team (TLT) following a petition submitted against Williams, accusing him of actions considered inimical to the interests of the ADC in Nasarawa.

The decision was reached during a meeting of the TLT held on Wednesday at Otunsha Hotel, Keffi, under the leadership of Chief John Michael Abdul.

Confirming the development in a statement, the party’s spokesperson, Comrade Idris Ojoko, said the suspension would last 14 days, pending the outcome of investigations by a disciplinary committee.

“The suspension is to allow for a thorough investigation into the allegations levelled against the state chairman,” Ojoko said.

Following the suspension, the party announced changes in its leadership structure in the state.

Ojoko disclosed that Barrister Paul Magaji Ajeh, a former State Secretary, has been appointed as Acting State Chairman, while Umar A. Babayaro will serve as Acting Secretary.

According to him, the appointments were made to ensure administrative continuity and stability within the party during the investigation period.

The ADC accused Williams of several acts of anti-party conduct, including his alleged failure to recognise the party’s National Working Committee (NWC) led by Senator David Mark.

He was also accused of refusing to integrate coalition members into the party’s structure in Nasarawa State, an action the party said violated directives from the national leadership.

Ojoko further alleged that Williams reported some party leaders to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), the Department of State Services (DSS) and the Nigeria Police, describing them as impostors.

According to the party, Williams allegedly went further to set up parallel party structures across the state, while obstructing the establishment of ADC offices at the state, local government and ward levels.

The party claimed these actions were carried out in defiance of clear directives from the National Working Committee.

Williams was also accused of interfering with the ongoing membership registration and revalidation exercise, a key programme aimed at strengthening the party’s grassroots presence ahead of future elections.

To probe the allegations, the TLT announced the constitution of a disciplinary committee. The committee will be chaired by Barrister Hassan Yakubu, with Amina Zanwa, Mamman Sunday and Yunus Abdullahi Sidi serving as members. Gaza Mark Auta will act as Secretary.

Ojoko said the committee has been mandated to conduct a transparent investigation and submit its findings within the suspension period.

The ADC leadership called on party members in Nasarawa State to remain calm and law-abiding, stressing that the disciplinary process was aimed at strengthening internal democracy and unity.

“The party remains committed to fairness, discipline and collective progress,” Ojoko added.
