The Director General of Legal Aid Council Mr. Aliyu Bagudu Abubakar on Friday
Inaugurated a 15 member committee on Third Party Motor Insurance and Rights Abuses at the board room of the Council Headquarters in Abuja as agreed during last stakeholders meeting in February.
An Assistant Director in the Council Amaka Agbaih disclosed this to NaijaBlitzNews.com stating that the committee is to brainstorm and come up with lasting solutions on how to handle issues bothering on administration of Third-Party motor insurance and rights Abuses on the nations roads.
The DG in his welcome address expressed delight over the level of
commitment by the various stakeholders while urging them to keep it up.
While inaugurating the committee, he highlighted the terms of reference as follows;
“To identify, assess and find solutions to the challenges associated with the
Administration of Third-Party Motor Insurance and Rights Abuses on our Roads,”
“To engage critical stakeholders institutionally with the view to finding lasting solutions to the various challenges hindering the success of the policy”
“To engage in continuous and robust sensitization and awareness campaign”
“To establish a feedback mechanism for monitoring and evaluation purpose.”
“Any other activity the committee may find necessary towards the realization of the objective of the project.”
“The committee is also to produce reports quarterly from date of inauguration.
In a similar vain, the president of one world initiative for sustainable development Mr Timothy Achanya while appreciating stakeholders and members, says the committee has no time to waste as they are hitting the ground running due to the ugly situation the common man faces when it comes to issues of third party motor insurance and right Abuses on the roads.
He therefore called for all hands to be on deck so that together the bottle necks surrounding the smooth
administration of the policy would be rooted out.
The committee members were
drawn from the FCT Command of the FRSC, FCT Police Command, NSCDC, NDLEA, NABTO, NALCOM, DRTS (VIO) FCT Hospital Management, Brekete Family Transport Soft Initiative, Bridge Gate Insurance Grace Anthony Foundation amongst others.
The Committee members agreed on a monthly, weekly or Bi-weekly Zoom Meeting as the need arises to enable them to brainstorm on critical issues concerning the third Party Insurance and the arbitrary Right Abuses on motorist.
The Director General seized the occasion to remind stakeholders and guest present that Legal Aid Council of Nigeria remains the official voice of the indigent Citizen of Nigeria and her OSCAR department is dedicated for issues bothering on accident victims and third party motor insurance.
