Two persons feared dead in shoot out in Okere community in Delta

Reports going the rounds said that there was tension in Okere community in Warri South local government area, following shooting by stern-looking soldiers.

According to witnesses, youths in Okere community had resisted traditional ceremony billed to be performed by the Olu of Warri, Ogiame Atuwatse III.

Multiple sources disclosed that two persons simply identified as Macaulay Uku and Daniel Grey were reportedly shot amid the melee.

Reports said that the two persons were injured in the shooting which occurred Saturday at Okere, even as their survival was, as of press time, said to be hanging in the balance.

“Some youths had resisted the monarch from entry the community to perform the rite, prompting the deployment of soldiers in the area.

“Their main grouse was that the monarch [who acclaimed to be a born-again Chtistian] was planning to pour anointing oil on the shrine, as against the established customary rites that the people were used to.”
