…as CRC cries out, says another recipe for crises being perpetuated by the Governor

A group under the aegis of Concerned Rivers Citizens, CRC on Thursday raised an alarm that they have uncovered a plot by Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara to use the courts to dislodge the Rivers State Assembly and/or set aside its Laws to pave for him to impose caretaker committees at the Local Govts against the Constitution, decisions of the Supreme Court and intervention of Mr. President.

This was disclosed in a statement issued and signed by the convener of CRC, Emmanuel Chibuzo stating that:

“Things are no longer at ease with Fubara as he has designed another evil plot which will take Rivers State backward and rock the dicy peace in the state just the way his pulling down of the hallow Chambers of the Assembly upset the peace of the state.

“We are well aware of his move to get an interim order from a Rivers High Court to declare all the laws passed by the State Assembly illegal/ and or restrain the Assembly in the interim and within the period of the interim order constitute illegal caretaker committees at the LGA filled with his goons. The same method he used to
got four lawmakers to sign the 2024 Appropriation Bill.

“The CRC totally condemns this destructive move and call on all right thinking Rivers people to resist this daylight robbery of the tenets of democracy.

CRC further calls on the Chief Judge of Rivers State and some six High Court judges considered for this yooman’s job to desist from being used as the public is watching them closely. The Judges being considered by the Fubara group for the job with some inducement are justice Boma Diepriye : Justice Opufa Ben-White : Justice G.O Ollor :Justice C.N. Wali
:Justice Monima W. Danagogo and
Justice Sika H. Aprioku.
It is important to state that we shall no longer seat back and watch any Judge being used to perpetuate any illegality. We shall come after such Judge using all available legal and social means to get justice to catch up with such a Judge.

“If Fubara continues to fight the state assembly meaningful development can never take place in the state and definitely growth will be truncated.

“Not too long ago we all saw how the state governor usurped the powers of the assembly getting four lawmakers to sign the budget of the state.

“Fubara is busy fighting himself in the name of building structures that he never had a hand in its foundation to the detriment of all Rivers people.

“This new dangerous path that he is designing for himself will not in any way favour Rivers people rather it will favour him and his co-travelers.

“Rivers will become the epicenter of mockery as democracy is being trampled upon by one misguided governor.

Iran’s foreign ministry on Monday said it was not currently involved in negotiations with the United States, despite a halt in recent fighting between the two sides.

“Mediators may convey messages from the American side to us regarding current developments in the region. But at present, we are not engaged in any negotiations with the United States,” ministry spokesman Esmaeil Baqaei said at a weekly press briefing.

“Claims that Iran has requested negotiations are fabrications that the other side circulates from time to time,” he added.

Hostilities resumed between Iran and the United States earlier this month after diplomatic efforts collapsed amid an impasse regarding the Strait of Hormuz.
Fighting has nonetheless paused since early Saturday, following 13 days of exchanges of fire between the two sides.

Baqaei criticised the United States, saying its conduct in recent years has “resembled that of a mafia gang that adheres to no rules or laws”.
“So long as such behaviour by the United States continues, we cannot be hopeful about the emergence of a reasonable process,” he added.

Iran insists on retaining control over the management of the Strait of Hormuz, including the collection of service fees, while keeping Oman involved as a coastal state.
Iran’s Revolutionary Guards have turned back multiple vessels in recent days, including six earlier on Monday, that attempted to transit the strait outside the route designated by the Islamic republic.

On Monday, Baqaei reiterated that Washington had nothing to do with recent talks with Oman over the administration of the Strait of Hormuz.
“These talks have no connection with the United States. They are a bilateral matter between Iran and Oman, and they are continuing,” Baqaei said, adding that the waterway “remains closed”.
