The Federal Government yesterday called on stakeholders and investors to take advantage of the construction of the 1000-km Sokoto-Badagry Superhighway and other infrastructural projects to optimise economic opportunities.

Works Minister David Umahi; Kwara and Niger State governors (AbdulRazaq AbdulRahman represented by Deputy Governor Kayode Alabi and Umaru Bago); , Chairman, House of Representatives Committee on Works, Akeem Alabi; Senior Special Adviser to the President on Community Engagement, Mrs. Chioma Nweze; Youth Development Minister Dr. Jemilat Bio and Senator Barinada Mpigi and other stakeholders alluded to the opportunities in the ongoing infrastructural drive of President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.

It was at the stakeholders’ engagement meeting on the alignment of Niger (125-km) and Kwara (188km), totaling 313-km out of 1000-km Sokoto-Badagry Superhighway in Ilorin. Umahi called on them to ensure the success of the projects, especially the Sokoto- Badagry Superhighway.

The minister had also met with stakeholders in Kebbi on the Kebbi State’s axis.

Umahi noted that the Sokoto-Badagry Superhighway has been in the pipeline for the past 48 years.

He said: “You can imagine the successive administrations that came and left and not even a single kilometre was done. It remained a dream. The Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway was raised by President Tinubu as Governor of Lagos State 25 years ago. The president will accomplish all the three legacy projects. We invite the governors to buy into the project.”

Commended the efforts Governor AbdulRazaq in Kwara and as the Nigerian Governors’ Forum (NGF) chairman, said: “Kwara is lucky to have Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq. I have seen a lot of developments since coming to town. But he is not just doing great in Kwara; he is helping the President to properly create good relationships with the Governors. He is a very calm and humble man, and a silent achiever.”

AbdulRazaq said the Renewed Hope Legacy Infrastructure Project, which connects Kwara to the superhighway projects, will boost Nigeria’s economic prosperity.

Bago said Nigeria needed a value chain in agriculture and road infrastructure.

He called on stakeholders to support the Renewed Hope Agenda of the President, ruling out payment of compensation for road infrastructure “because it is for the development of the state”.

AbdulRazaq, who lauded Tinubu’s bold vision to develop infrastructure, enhance national connectivity and grow the economy, said: “What we are doing this afternoon is another testament to the bold vision of President Tinubu and another evidence that our country is in a race to align development priorities and population growth with commensurate infrastructure that connects every part of Nigeria. But much more important is the decision of the President to make the people the centrepiece of this bold vision.”

Ogun State Police Command says it has recovered the Lexus RX300 stolen from the home of slain ex-OGTV broadcaster Mrs Kitan Oyesiku and her security guard in Iyana Agodo Village, Owode-Egba.

The recovery happened during night operations, the command confirmed Monday.

—CP walks the scene himself—

Commissioner of Police Bode Ojajuni visited the crime scene for an on-the-spot assessment. He inspected the premises and got briefings from detectives handling the case.

“CP Ojajuni reiterated the Command’s resolve to leave no stone unturned in unraveling the circumstances surrounding the incident and ensuring that those responsible are identified, apprehended, and brought to justice,” Police PPRO Oluseyi Babaseyi said in a statement.

The visit, according to police, was to evaluate progress in the investigation into the double murder that has rattled the Owode-Egba community.

—What happened that night—

PUNCH Online had reported that a resident raised the alarm over suspicious movements around Oyesiku’s residence. When operatives arrived, they found signs of forced entry.

Inside, the security guard was found dead at his post. Oyesiku’s body was later discovered inside the apartment. Her Lexus RX300 was missing.

Police now say the vehicle has been secured and will serve as key evidence. “It is worthy of note that the vehicle earlier reported missing from the residence, a Lexus RX300, has been recovered by police operatives during the night hours,” Babaseyi confirmed.

—“Intensive investigation ongoing”–

Ojajuni commiserated with Oyesiku’s family and assured Ogun residents that “all available resources are being deployed to track down the perpetrators.”

For now, no arrests have been announced. But with the car recovered and the CP personally monitoring the case, police say they’re closing in.

Oyesiku, a retired broadcaster with Ogun State Television, was remembered by colleagues as a calm voice on air. Her death, alongside her guard’s, has renewed calls for better security for elderly residents living alone in semi-urban areas. [The Punch report rewritten]

The senator representing Benue South Senatorial District and Senate Minority Leader, Comrade Abba Moro PhD, on behalf of the minority caucus of the senate, congratulates the candidate of People’s Democratic Party (PDP), Olaka Nwogu, in the Saturday bye-election in Rivers State on his landslide victory.

The Independent National Electoral Commission, on Sunday, declared Nwogu as the winner of the Rivers South East Senatorial District bye-election. He polled 47,961 votes to defeat the APC candidate who scored 1,647.

Senator Moro attributes Ngwogu’s victory to the growing acceptability of the PDP and doggedness of the National Leader of the party and Honourable Minister of the FCT, Barr. Nyesom Wike.

The senator says Wike’s leadership of the PDP is returning the party to its winning ways and assures of his continued contribution to strengthen the party at all levels ahead of the 2027 general elections.
