Nigerian transgender, Okuneye Olanrewaju, popularly known as Bobrisky, reportedly spent less than a month in prison following a six-month sentence for naira abuse in April, according to a report by FIJ.
On Tuesday, social media personality Martins Vincent Otse, known online as VeryDarkMan, shared a recorded phone conversation in which Bobrisky allegedly admitted to serving the majority of her sentence outside of prison.
She also claimed to have paid N15 million to have the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) drop charges of ‘money laundering’ against her.
These revelations have reignited discussions about corruption within Nigerian prisons. In response, Interior Minister Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo has ordered “a thorough and unconditional investigation into the allegations of bribery and corruption within the Nigerian Correctional Service.”
Sources close to the situation informed FIJ on Thursday that while Bobrisky was initially taken to Kirikiri prison after her sentencing in April, she left after only three weeks and was officially released in August.
‘Guarded Like a President’
An official from Kirikiri prison shared with FIJ, “Bob spent only three weeks here with us in Kirikiri before she was taken out to another place we don’t know. That was where she spent her time; it was an ‘arrangee thing’. And money was involved.”
The source added that Bobrisky was “guarded like a president” until she was quietly removed from the prison.
“She received VIP treatment all through,” the source continued. “She lived in a special cell. The money she said she paid is actually true; no lies. Yes, she paid the money.”
These claims align with a 2019 undercover investigation by FIJ founder ‘Fisayo Soyombo, where he intentionally got himself arrested and imprisoned, exposing the fact that it was possible to bribe prison officials for privileges such as living in furnished cells, bringing in contraband items, and even avoiding the prison sentence entirely.
Video Call Incident with Bobrisky
The source also recounted a notable incident during Bobrisky’s time at Kirikiri. While prison authorities kept her isolated from other inmates, one event stood out.
“There was this day one guy was on a video call with his girlfriend, and he suddenly turned the camera on Bobrisky,” the official shared. “It was deemed an invasion of Bobrisky’s privacy, so, as punishment, he was locked up in his cell for nearly two months.”
The source added, “As I said, she was heavily guarded, so there weren’t many of such incidents to point at. And she was quietly taken away after three weeks.”
James Brown’s Visit to Bobrisky?
After Otse released the audio recording, social media users began questioning whom James Brown, another well-known crossdresser, visited in Kirikiri prison when she claimed to have visited Bobrisky on June 8.
“By the time James visited,” Bobrisky was no longer in prison, a source from James’ camp revealed to FIJ on Thursday.
“James went there to see one guy called Vindicate who had invited her to collaborate on recording a song from prison. The prison authorities liked the idea of a song recorded from prison, so they let her come.”
No Denial from the Prison Service
As of now, the Nigerian Correctional Service has not publicly denied or confirmed the claims that Bobrisky did not fully serve her jail term at Kirikiri.
However, on Thursday night, the Interior Ministry announced that two deputy controllers of corrections (DCCs) in charge of the medium-security custodial center at Kirikiri, Michael Anugwa and Sikiru Adekunle, had been suspended “over their unprofessional conduct in handling the case of Nigerian crossdresser Idris Okuneye, popularly known as Bobrisky.”
Ja’afaru Ahmed, the secretary of the Civil Defence, Correctional, Fire and Immigration Services Board, announced that the suspension was necessary to allow for further investigation.

Alex Ekubo: Daddy Freeze mocks Nathaniel Bassey over ‘failure’ to perform miracle
Media personality, Daddy Freeze, has mocked gospel singer and pastor, Nathaniel Bassey, over his inability to heal or raise the late actor Alex Ekubo.
DAILY POST reports that Nathaniel Bassey had during Alex’s service of songs last week narrated how he was called by a pastor friend to go and minister to Alex at the hospital.
While revealing that Alex unfortunately died a day before his appointment with him, Nathaniel Bassey noted that he still proceeded to go and pray with the deceased family on the appointed date, which was a day after his death.
Reacting to Nathaniel Bassey’s speech at the event, Daddy Freeze in an Instagram live video over the weekend, said the pastor could have used the opportunity of the visit to bring Alex back to life.
“So we’re sitting down minding our business, and Nathaniel Bassey climbed the pulpit, then he blows the trumpet. Ok, you can signify the trumpet in revelation, linking with the end of the world, it was the end of Alex world, may his soul rest in peace.
“But then he now starts talking and said he has never met Alex before, but then his pastor friend said they should go and pray for Alex and sing for Alex. But they want to go on Tuesday but Alex died on Monday. And then they still went on the Tuesday and still sang and prayed.
“And I’m like really? What happened to all your miracles, healing and your resurrection that you post on your platforms? I would have thought this is an opportunity to show your God’s glory,” Freeze said.

Toyin Adewale Says Marriage Is Not A Do-Or-Die Affair
Veteran actress Toyin Adewale has said marriage is not a do-or-die affair for her. She drew a clear line at domestic violence.
Speaking on Biola Bayo’s podcast, she said small misunderstandings are normal in marriage. She added that they are not enough reason to leave a home.
Adewale said leaving a marriage can be uncertain. She questioned whether life would improve or become worse elsewhere. She stressed that her decision to stay depends on safety.
She revealed she married in January 1993. She welcomed her son, singer Mayorkun, in March the same year. She described herself as calm and gentle at home.
She said:
“Marriage isn’t a do-or-die thing for me. I wouldn’t stay if he beats me. If there’s no violence and it’s just a minor misunderstanding, it’s normal. Why do I leave? Do I know what will happen where I am going? I got married with the determination of never leaving my marriage, provided there’s no violence.
“I got married in January 1993 and had Mayowa in March 1993. I have been married for 33 years. I am the gentle one”.
Adewale said she began her professional acting career in 1988. Her first paid role earned her N5,000. She also performed before the president. That moment brought her into the spotlight.
She added that she discovered her passion for acting early. She said she still enjoys it today.
“I just found myself in acting, and I enjoy doing it. I started acting in 1988. They paid me 5000 naira, I can’t forget. They gave us clothes, and we performed before the president. It was my first job that brought me to the limelight,” she added.

“My father had four wives, and each wife had one child. I am the lastborn. He was a disciplinarian, so he fixed a lot for us. He bought his grave cloth, did his grave and all.
He paid all the necessary dues to the churches and all and told them to sign so they wouldn’t stress us when he died”, she concluded.
