The Labour Party (LP) has strongly rejected rumors suggesting that it is in a partnership with President Bola Tinubu in anticipation of the 2027 elections. These rumors claimed that the LP had struck an agreement to support Tinubu’s bid for a second term should he choose to run.
In response, the LP’s National Publicity Secretary, Mr. Obiora Ifoh, issued a statement on Friday, labeling these allegations as baseless and unfounded. He emphasized that the party has continually dismissed any notion of collaboration with the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) concerning the upcoming 2027 general elections.
Ifoh asserted that the Labour Party remains the most prominent opposition party in Nigeria, with the party’s National Chairman, Barrister Julius Abure, being a leading critic of the current government. “Our National Chairman is at the forefront of challenging the policies of the government, consistently voicing opposition to the actions of the current administration,” Ifoh said.
The spokesperson also highlighted the party’s ongoing efforts to strengthen Nigeria’s democracy. These include the establishment of an Electoral Reform Committee aimed at ensuring free, fair, and transparent elections, as well as the introduction of an e-membership registration system that has already attracted a significant number of new members.
Ifoh further expressed disappointment over the defamatory nature of the rumors, calling it “ridiculous and unfortunate” for anyone to attempt to undermine the Labour Party’s efforts in such a manner. “For anyone to try to tarnish the reputation of a party that is actively working to reshape the political landscape in Nigeria is truly unfortunate,” he remarked.
Finally, the Labour Party spokesperson challenged Deji Adeyanju and anyone else promoting such claims to provide concrete evidence to support their accusations. “We call on Deji Adeyanju and others to present factual proof if they believe that the leadership of our party or Mr. Abure has any intention of working with President Tinubu or the APC for the 2027 elections,” Ifoh stated firmly.

JAMB Restores CAPS, Orders Tertiary Institutions to Fast-Track 2026 Admissions
The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has restored its Central Admissions Processing System (CAPS) after a brief disruption, directing tertiary institutions across the country to urgently accelerate their admission processes.
The Board announced the development in its weekly bulletin published on Monday, confirming that the admissions platform was restored on Sunday, September 27.
JAMB attributed the temporary outage to an administrative issue involving its hosting provider. According to the Board, it worked with relevant service providers to resolve the problem, restore the system and strengthen its hosting arrangements to guard against a recurrence.
With CAPS now fully operational, JAMB has instructed universities, polytechnics and colleges of education to intensify their admission activities and recover time lost during the disruption.
The directive is particularly important as institutions work within the admission timetable approved at the 2026 Policy Meeting on Admissions for the 2026/2027 academic session.
Under the approved schedule, public universities are expected to conclude their admission processes by October 31, while private universities have until November 30.
Other tertiary institutions, including polytechnics and colleges of education, are expected to complete their admission exercises by December 31.
JAMB also noted that the recent release of the 2026 Senior School Certificate Examination (SSCE) results by the National Examinations Council (NECO) has provided public universities with the necessary information to process outstanding applications ahead of the October 31 deadline.
The Board therefore urged candidates who were awaiting their NECO results to promptly upload or verify their results on the JAMB portal to avoid delays in the admission process.
Candidates were also advised to regularly monitor their admission status and accept admission offers promptly once they are offered admission.
JAMB’s latest directive places the responsibility on institutions and candidates to move quickly as the 2026/2027 admission window enters its final stages, with public universities facing the earliest deadline.
