Tinubu Renames Abuja Varsity after Yakubu Gowon

President Bola Tinubu has approved the renaming of the University of Abuja after Nigeria’s former Head of State, General Yakubu Gowon.

The University will npw be known as the Yakubu Gowon University, Abuja.

The renaming of the institution was part of the resolution of the Federal Executive Council ((FEC) meeting on Monday.

The Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris announced the name change shortly after the last Federal Executive Council meeting for the year 2024, chaired by President Bola Tinubu.

He told journalists at the State House that the decision was taken in recognition of the enormous contribution of Gowon to nation building.
