Former UFC welterweight champion Kamaru Usman has advised his close friend Israel Adesanya to take time off and focus on enjoying his fighting career following his third consecutive defeat at UFC Fight Night 250 in Saudi Arabia, PUNCH Sports Extra reports.

Speaking on his “Pound 4 Pound” podcast with Henry Cejudo, Usman suggested that Adesanya should follow the path of Anderson Silva by choosing entertaining matchups rather than rushing back into title contention.

“For Israel, man, honestly he’s at a point in his career to where – remember Anderson Silva got to this place where, ‘I’m going to pick a fun fight. It’s a fun fight, that’s a fight that I think is going to be great, that people want to see that fight,’” Usman said.

“Because Izzy did show that he can still fight, he was sharp.”

The Nigerian-born New Zealander suffered a second-round TKO loss to Nassourdine Imavov last Saturday at the ANB Arena in Riyadh, marking his fourth defeat in his last five outings.

The loss, which came after a promising first round where Adesanya landed several effective low kicks, saw him drop two places to fourth in the official UFC middleweight rankings, while Imavov climbed to the second spot ahead of Khamzat Chimaev.

The 35-year-old former two-time middleweight champion, who previously defended his title five times, has endured a difficult 12 months, losing his belt to Sean Strickland at UFC 293 before suffering another defeat to Dricus du Plessis at UFC 305 last August.

“Right now, Izzy, take your time. When you want to come back at the end of the year then take a fight that makes sense,” Usman concluded.

Despite the setback, Adesanya, whose professional record now stands at 24 wins with 16 knockouts and five defeats, displayed his characteristic resilience on social media, writing, “As real as it gets, @ufc. Rolled the dice…snake eyes. I’ll be back, gone to get some milk.”

The bout marked the first time in six years and 12 fights that Adesanya has competed without a UFC championship on the line, with his latest loss potentially reshaping his approach to future matchups as he contemplates his next move in the increasingly competitive middleweight division.

After loosing to Malawi in there Opening match of 2026 WAFCON cracker, The Super Falcons dig deep to secure a vital victory over Zambia in Rabat, despite playing the entire second half with 10 players.

The Super Falcons stumbled to a catastrophic loss in their July 28 opener against Malawi but put up a disciplined display against Zambia, a tournament favourite, to earn their first three points of the tournament on Saturday night.

Head Coach Justin Madugu made five changes to the side, bringing in six-time CAF Women’s Player of the Year winner Asisat Oshoala in place of Toronto-based Esther Okoronkwo, and Rofiat Imuran for Shukurat Oladipo.

The Copper Queens of Zambia came into the side with a lot of confidence after thrashing Egypt 6–0 in their opener, and it showed from the first blast of the whistle.

A misplaced possession move led to a turnover, with Super Falcons captain Rasheedat Ajibade sending a long ball toward Oshoala, whose speed helped her beat the Zambian defence and allowed her to get to the ball before the Zambian goalkeeper, who saved the initial attempt but was unable to stop the ball from ricocheting off Oshoala for the only goal of the encounter.

It was Oshoala’s 15th WAFCON goal in a storied career.

The Super Falcons went a woman down when Oluwatosin Demehin got sent off for bringing down the Copper Queens’ captain, Barbara Banda.

The game plan changed from then, as the Super Falcons maintained a strong defensive shape and only attempted forays into the opponent’s half on the counter.

In the end, their defensive grit, captain Ajibade’s disciplined play, and good goalkeeping from Chiamaka Nnadozie helped the Super Falcons to secure their first three points of WAFCON 2026.

Attention will now turn to the Cleopatras of Egypt, whom they face on Wednesday for a chance to progress to the next round.

UEFA threatens World Cup boycott over FIFA’s private investment plan

UEFA has threatened to pull all 55 of its member associations out of FIFA competitions, including the 2030 FIFA World Cup and the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup, if FIFA proceeds with plans to open its tournaments to private investors.

The warning followed an emergency meeting of UEFA’s member associations on Thursday, where European football’s governing body unanimously rejected FIFA’s proposal to sell ownership interests in the World Cup and other global competitions. UEFA argued that the move would fundamentally change the nature of football and place commercial interests ahead of the game itself.

In a strongly worded statement, UEFA insisted that the FIFA World Cup is a global sporting legacy built over generations by players, national teams and supporters, and should never be treated as a commercial asset. According to the organisation, football’s biggest tournament is “not for sale” and must remain under the stewardship of the football community rather than private investors seeking financial returns.

UEFA also criticised the manner in which the proposal was introduced, accusing FIFA of developing the plan behind closed doors without meaningful consultation with national associations and other key stakeholders. The body described the process as a serious failure of leadership, arguing that decisions of such magnitude should not be made without broad engagement across the football world.

The European governing body further alleged that member associations had effectively been presented with an ultimatum — either accept the proposed ownership model or face the consequences. UEFA said such an approach undermines democratic governance and places undue pressure on football authorities to endorse a decision with far-reaching consequences.

According to UEFA, allowing external investors to acquire ownership interests in FIFA competitions would permanently alter how the sport is governed. It warned that future decisions on the international calendar, tournament formats and the overall direction of the game could become increasingly influenced by shareholder expectations rather than what is best for football, its players, clubs, leagues and supporters.

Reaffirming Europe’s position, UEFA declared that it would not legitimise a model that places financial returns above the long-term interests of the sport. It maintained that no football authority has the moral right to sell competitions that belong to generations of fans and players.

As a result, UEFA announced that no European national team would participate in FIFA competitions for as long as the proposal remains active, unless it is completely withdrawn and FIFA provides binding guarantees that it will never again seek to introduce private ownership into its governance or competitions.

The statement concluded with a firm declaration that UEFA and its member associations would oppose the proposal with unwavering determination, insisting that some aspects of football are too important to be commercialised. It stressed that the FIFA World Cup belongs to the game and its global community, and vowed that Europe would continue to resist any attempt to put it up for sale.
