According to a statement issued by Major Samson Zhakom, the military operation was carried out in the early hours of Thursday, May 23, 2025, as part of ongoing efforts under Operation Safe Haven to rid the state of armed criminal elements.

“As part of ongoing efforts to flush out arm-carrying criminals from Plateau State, in the early hours of 23 May 2025, troops of 3 Division/Operation Save Haven conducted an intelligence-based raid operation at bandits’ hideout at Teng Village in Qua’an Pan Local Government Area of Plateau State,” Zhakom said.

He confirmed that one bandit was killed during the exchange of gunfire, while blood trails along the escape route suggest several others may have sustained gunshot wounds.

During a sweep of the hideout, the troops recovered one AK-47 rifle, a magazine, and 11 rounds of 7.62mm (Special) ammunition. The recovered items are now in military custody for further action.

Zhakom noted that troops have since launched a follow-up pursuit of the fleeing bandits to prevent regrouping or further criminal activity.

He reaffirmed the commitment of the Nigerian Army’s 3 Division to sustaining pressure on non-state actors and dismantling criminal networks across Plateau and its environs.

The troops remain resolute and professional in the joint operations area and will continue to obstruct and eliminate the activities of armed criminals by every means necessary, he added.
