Tragedy has struck the Ughelli North Legislative Council in Delta State as Hon. Obukoadata Aghoghofia, the councillor representing Evwreni Ward 8, has passed away. He reportedly slumped and died while participating in a football match held in Evwreni community.
His untimely death marks the third loss of a serving councillor in Delta State within just nine months and one week—two from Ughelli North and one from Emede Ward 5 in Isoko South.
Mourning the late lawmaker, Ughelli North Local Government Council Chairman, Olorogun Jaro Egbo, expressed deep sorrow in a tribute posted on Facebook. He recalled that they had shared laughter and conversation just hours before Aghoghofia’s sudden death. 
“I am not one given to emotional fits, but your sudden departure just three hours after we sat in my office, shared laughter and joked together, is a tragedy too painful to bear,” Egbo wrote.
He praised Aghoghofia as an accomplished legislator whose commitment to public service and community development left a lasting impact on the 8th Assembly.
“You may have gone the way of all mortals, Hon. Obukoadata Aghoghofia, but that moment of joy we shared remains a sad reminder of how fleeting and ephemeral life truly is.”
Egbo further noted that the late councillor was actively engaged in legislative duties up until his death and described his passing as a significant loss to the council and the community.
“On behalf of the government and the good people of Ughelli North Local Government Area, I mourn the loss of a brother, a friend, and an exceptional politician. His absence will be deeply felt,” he concluded.
It is worth recalling that just over a month ago, on April 23, 2025, Hon. Agent Friday Ohwoevworuemu, representing Uwheru Ward 16, also passed away after a brief illness.
