Ex-Vice President of Nigeria, Namadi Sambo, has firmly denied reports claiming he has defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
The speculation, which circulated widely on Wednesday, was reportedly sparked by a photo showing Sambo with Kaduna State Governor, Uba Sani. However, in a rebuttal released on Thursday by his media adviser, Umar Sani, Sambo described the claims as entirely false and baseless.
Sani clarified that the photograph in question was taken years ago during a condolence visit by Governor Sani to Sambo’s Abuja residence following the death of his brother, Sani Sambo. He accused those behind the report of twisting the image to create a false political narrative.
He emphasized that Sambo remains a loyal and active member of the PDP and has no intention of switching political allegiance.
Sambo is scheduled to attend the commissioning of a 300-bed hospital in Kaduna on Thursday—a project he initiated while in office. His media team insisted that his presence at the event should not be misconstrued as support for the APC or a political shift.
“For the avoidance of doubt,” the statement read, “His Excellency, Arc. Mohammed Namadi Sambo, remains a loyal and committed member of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP).”
The statement concluded by describing the defection claims as fabricated and politically motivated, intended to cause confusion and score cheap points.
