Saudi Leaders Send Condolences To Nigeria Over Buhari’s Death
Saudi Arabia’s top leadership has extended heartfelt condolences to the government and people of Nigeria following the death of former President Muhammadu Buhari.
Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud and Crown Prince and Prime Minister Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud both sent formal cables of condolence to Nigerian President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, expressing sorrow over the passing of the former leader.
King Salman conveyed his “deepest condolences and sincere sympathy” to President Tinubu, the Nigerian people, and the family of the deceased in a message released on Monday.
Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman echoed the sentiments in a separate cable, highlighting the respect and historical ties between the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and Nigeria.
“I extend to Your Excellency, the people of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, and the family of the deceased my deepest condolences and sincere sympathy,” the Crown Prince stated.
He praised Buhari’s decades of public service, particularly his leadership in strengthening Nigeria’s political stability and national security.
“President Buhari was a leader of great integrity and dedication, and his contributions to Nigeria’s development will be remembered with respect,” he said.
Muhammadu Buhari, who served as Nigeria’s president from 2015 to 2023 and previously as a military ruler in the 1980s, passed away on Sunday at the age of 82 after a brief illness.
Widely known for his anti-corruption efforts and battle against insurgency in northeastern Nigeria, Buhari leaves behind a legacy of firm governance and nationalistic resolve.
President Bola Tinubu, Buhari’s successor, hailed him as a “patriot and statesman who placed national interest above all else”.
The Nigerian government has declared a period of national mourning. A state funeral is scheduled to be held on Tuesday in Buhari’s hometown of Daura, Katsina State, with dignitaries and representatives from around the world expected to attend.

Social media platforms have been awash with reactions after former First Lady Aisha Buhari, former senator Dino Melaye, businessman Ben Murray-Bruce and Seyi Tinubu, son of President Bola Tinubu, were spotted together at a pre-wedding gathering in Marbella, Málaga, Spain.
The gathering was part of activities ahead of the wedding celebration of Saraya Danjuma and Bawa Salaka, according to reports.
A video from the event circulated widely on social media on Saturday, showing the Nigerian personalities among other guests at the gathering.
The event reportedly took place at La Cabane, a Dolce & Gabbana venue in Málaga, with several prominent Nigerians in attendance.
The presence of the personalities together attracted particular attention online because of their different public and political associations.
The video circulating online showed the group in a relaxed setting in Marbella as they attended events associated with the wedding celebrations.
The gathering generated mixed reactions, with some social media users questioning the sighting of prominent Nigerians together outside the country amid political differences and concerns over economic conditions in Nigeria.
Others, however, noted that the presence of public figures at the same private social event did not, by itself, establish any political alliance, agreement or coordinated activity among them.
One X user, @johnson_ogwu, wrote: “Millions are dying back home, the devil is better than these people.”
Another user, @Monday357745, commented: “They will be fighting in public, yet they dine and wine with each other in private. Life of politicians.”
Similarly, @millie_kash2 wrote: “They are all the same thing, they will disagree with themselves in Nigeria na movie them dey act for us, then go outside Nigeria to go and have fun together.”
Reacting to the gathering, @IFYNWABUEZE3 said: “Una think say na una get Nigeria abi? As una gather like this una pass the whole country? Isokay, let’s see how it goes.”
Another X user, @Coal004, criticised the gathering, writing: “See how comfortable they are. Omo, we are not even trying. These people just get too much audacity…”
Meanwhile, @ohamadike22140 focused on the apparent freedom of movement of the Nigerians at the gathering, writing: “No soldier or police with heavy arms sighted, they are all freely enjoying themselves, moving around with no single bodyguard in another man’s working country. Nigerians 💔.”
A TikTok user, Khadija Muhammad Yar Lele, has been remanded in a correctional facility in Kano over alleged defamation and insulting a politician.
Khadija was arraigned before the Upper Sharia Court sitting at Post Office Kano municipal presided over by Justice Garba Malafa, where the police filed a charge against her over the alleged offences.
When the charges were read to her, the defendant pleaded not guilty of all charges.
The prosecutor, Barrister Awaisu Sani Lawan, urged the court to adjourn the case to enable the prosecution to present its witnesses at next sitting.
After hearing both sides, the court ordered that Khadija be remanded in a correctional facility and adjourned the case until October 14, 2026, for her re-arraignment and continuation of proceedings.
The defendant was earlier accused of posting a video on her TikTok account in which she allegedly made insulting remarks against the complainant, identified as MD Hassan, a politician in Nassarawa Local Government Area of Kano State.
In the video, she was allegedly heard referring to the politician as a “prostitute’s son”, a statement that led to her arraignment before the court.
American rapper Nicki Minaj has followed Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) presidential candidate Peter Obi on X, shortly after reposting his statement on the reported killings and abductions in Niger State.
A check on the platform showed that Obi is the only 2027 presidential candidate followed by the rapper on X.
Minaj’s action came shortly after she reposted a statement shared by Obi on Wednesday, in which the former Anambra State governor condemned the reported killings and abductions in Niger State, describing the situation as a systematic devaluation of human life.
Obi also called for intelligence-led action against the criminal networks responsible for attacks and abductions across the country, stressing the need for stronger measures to protect communities and citizens.
The rapper’s repost attracted reactions from Nigerians and other social media users in Nigeria and the diaspora, with some praising her for amplifying concerns about the country’s security situation and calls for justice and protection for affected communities.
Minaj’s decision to follow Obi has also drawn attention online, particularly because of the reported list of political figures she follows on the platform.
The development comes amid growing attention to the 2027 presidential race and renewed discussions on insecurity in Nigeria.
