State Funeral Held for Victims of August 6 Helicopter Crash in Ashanti Region

A solemn state funeral has been held in Accra today for the eight individuals who tragically lost their lives in the August 6 helicopter crash near Adansi Akrofuom in the Ashanti Region. The ceremony, attended by high-ranking government officials, military officers, bereaved families, and members of the public, served as a final farewell to the fallen.

The crash, which occurred during a routine mission, claimed the lives of military personnel and civilians on board. Investigations into the cause of the accident are still underway, with authorities promising a transparent report once findings are complete.

At the state funeral, the Ghana Armed Forces conducted full military honors, including the laying of wreaths, the sounding of the Last Post, and a 21-gun salute. The coffins, draped in the national flag, were displayed for viewing as mourners paid their respects.

President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, in his tribute, described the victims as “patriotic men and women who dedicated their lives to the service of Ghana.” He assured the grieving families that the state stands with them during this difficult period and will provide necessary support.

Family representatives expressed deep sorrow over the loss, calling it an irreplaceable blow. Religious leaders also offered prayers, urging the nation to reflect on the value of unity and safety in the face of tragedy.

The remains of the victims were later interred at the Military Cemetery, marking the end of an emotional day of remembrance.

On August 6, 2025, a Ghana Armed Forces helicopter was involved in a fatal mid-air incident during an assignment in the Ashanti Region. All eight occupants were pronounced dead at the scene. The incident has since sparked national mourning, with flags flown at half-mast across the country.
