Don’t mortgage your future by selling PVC, Obi begs Nigerians

In a statement titled “PVC is the bridge to a New Nigeria,” Obi described the voter card as “the voice of the voiceless, the shield of the weak, and the weapon of the poor for a better life, against injustice and bad leadership.” He urged citizens to organize, make election rigging difficult, and firmly hold onto their PVCs as a means to shape the nation’s future.

Obi also warned against selling votes, stressing that those who do are only “investing in corruption” and enabling the theft of public funds meant for schools, hospitals, and job creation. He described vote-selling as mortgaging the country’s future and depriving families of opportunities for a better life.

“Our democracy is at stake,” Obi said. “Register, collect, and safeguard your PVC, and when the time comes, use it wisely. Vote for leaders with competence, character, capacity, and compassion—leaders who put you first. Do not be intimidated, deceived, or bought.”

The former Anambra governor’s appeal comes in the wake of weekend by-elections across several states, reinforcing the importance of citizens exercising their democratic rights. Obi emphasized that true power belongs to the people, not to corrupt politicians who trade the nation’s future for selfish gains.
