Nigeria’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Yusuf Maitama Tuggar, has highlighted the strategic value of renewed cooperation between Nigeria and the United States.
Tuggar who said this during a high-level roundtable organised by the Business Council for International Understanding (BCIU) on the sidelines of the 80th United Nations General Assembly (UNGA), called for greater investment flows between both countries.
The session which wasattended by Nigeria’s Vice President, Kashim Shettima alongside senior executives of leading U.S. firms, examined opportunities for investment in Nigeria’s priority sectors, including energy, agriculture, technology, and finance.
Addressing participants, Tuggar called on Washington to strengthen its engagement with key African partners.
“The United States should revert to working with anchor states in Africa, such as Nigeria. Our population, abundant resources, and continental scale make Nigeria a natural destination for U.S. business partnerships. Such a collaboration will drive down costs, allow access to a vast talent pool, and help integrate millions of informal businesses into the formal economy,” he said.
The Minister emphasised that under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, Nigeria remains committed to advancing economic diplomacy, creating a conducive business climate, and ensuring that international collaborations deliver tangible benefits for citizens. He pointed to the country’s young population, ongoing reforms, and continental leadership role as factors that continue to position Nigeria as Africa’s foremost investment hub.
