The House of Representatives has once again slipped into a closed-door session, shortly after reconvening its plenary on Wednesday, 5 November 2025.
NaijaBlitzNews.com recalls that during Tuesday’s sitting, lawmakers had voted to adjourn plenary for seven days, demanding the appearance of the Minister of Finance, the Minister of Budget, and the Accountant General of the Federation. The decision followed growing outrage over the non-payment of indigenous contractors and the stalled implementation of the 2024–2025 budget.
However, in a surprising twist later that evening, the House reversed its earlier stance and announced a sudden resumption of plenary. The decision was communicated through an internal memo issued by the Clerk of the House, Dr Yahaya Danzaria (Esq).
Confirming the development, the House Spokesperson, Rep. Akin Rotimi, released a statement on Tuesday night, stating:
“The House of Representatives will reconvene for plenary on Wednesday, 5 November 2025, contrary to the earlier resolution to adjourn sitting until next Tuesday.”
The reason behind the lawmakers’ swift change of heart remains unclear, but the latest closed-door session has once again stirred speculation about deepening divisions and behind-the-scenes manoeuvres within the Green Chamber.
“According to the communication, the early resumption will afford the Leadership of the House the opportunity to brief Members on progress recorded in resolving these issues and other related matters of national importance.
“At Wednesday’s plenary, the House is expected to formally rescind its earlier adjournment resolution to enable proceedings to continue.
“The Leadership urges all Honourable Members to make the necessary arrangements to be in attendance”, Rotimi stated.
Today again, the contractors were seen at the gate of the National Assembly, protesting again as they had promised to do this for the next week everyday, the reason the House had adjourned for one week.
But upon resumption today the lawmakers who seem not agitated called for a closed door session.
