The Speaker House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Tajudeen Abbas, has condemned the assault on the Government Girls’ Comprehensive Senior Secondary School (GGCSS) in Maga, Kebbi State, where around 25 students were seized by armed bandits.
Speaker Abbas described the incident during which some school officials were reportedly killed “unfortunate, gruesome, and despicable.”
The attack took place on Sunday night, when bandits stormed the school in the Danko/Wasagu Local Government Area and took the schoolgirls away.
Expressing deep concern for the children held captive, the Speaker urged security agencies to ensure a swift and decisive response, saying the rescue of the abducted students must be treated as a matter of utmost urgency.
He stressed that educational institutions should stand among the safest places in the country and warned that the implications of such attacks were far-reaching. According to him, the recurrence of this trend must be halted by enhanced security action.
Despite the gravity of the situation, Speaker Abbas reaffirmed his trust in the Nigerian Armed Forces, as well as other security and intelligence services, expressing confidence that they would secure the release of the schoolgirls and bring the perpetrators to justice.
He further reiterated the commitment of the 10th House to supporting the government’s efforts to strengthen the safety of lives and property nationwide. He added that the education and wellbeing of young Nigerians remain central priorities for the Parliament.
Sympathising with the families affected, Speaker Abbas said he prayed for the safe return of every child to her community.
