Gunmen suspected to be bandits have launched another attack in Kwara State, killing two and abducting four rice farmers in Bokungi Village, Edu Local Government Area.
This came barely 24 hours after an attack on a church in Eruku, Ekiti LGA, where at least two persons were killed and some others abducted.
The incident happened on Wednesday during peak harvest hours, with victims reportedly surrounded while gathering their rice.
A community source confirmed the development, noting that information was still being compiled.
Residents said the attackers operated for several minutes before leaving the area.
Further findings indicated that the two farmers were killed during an attempt to resist the abduction.
According to a community leader in Bokungi, the farmers were wrapping up their day’s work around 6 p.m. when the assailants approached.
Four farmers who were close by were taken away, while three others ran.
Two were fatally shot, and one escaped with injury. The deceased have since been buried.
Community members say rising insecurity in Edu Local Government Area has forced many farmers to abandon their settlements, particularly during the harvest season when they are most exposed.
Efforts to reach the Kwara State Commissioner of Police, Mr. Ojo Adekimi, were unsuccessful at the time of filing this report.
