The Senate has confirmed the nomination of former Minister of Health and eminent academic, Prof. Isaac Folorunso Adewole, as a Non-Career Ambassador, following the transmission of his name by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu earlier in the week.
His endorsement marks a significant return to frontline national service for the celebrated scholar, whose contributions to healthcare, academia, and governance have earned him widespread respect. During Thursday’s plenary, lawmakers also approved the nominations of former Minister of Interior, Lt-Gen. Abdulrahman Danbazau (rtd.), former Minister of Aviation, Chief Femi Fani-Kayode, and several other nominees screened for both Career and Non-Career ambassadorial postings. Senators commended the nominees’ track records in public service and expressed confidence in their capacity to represent Nigeria credibly on the global stage.
Prof. Adewole, a former Vice-Chancellor of the University of Ibadan, received particular praise for his decades-long impact in medical research, health administration, and public policy. Widely regarded as a disciplined technocrat, he is also known to be a close associate of Chief Bisi Akande and a political ally of former Osun State Governor and current Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, Adegboyega Oyetola.
