The Anambra State Police Command has arrested a 28-year-old man, Friday Akonobi, in connection with the abduction and gruesome murder of a six-year-old girl, in a case allegedly linked to an Enugu-based native doctor, Obieze Ezeani, popularly known as “Edey Play” or “Edey Show.”
Police operatives attached to the Rapid Response Squad (RRS), Awkuzu, effected the arrest in the early hours of Friday, January 17, 2026, following credible intelligence.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the suspect was allegedly involved in the abduction of Late Miss Ozioma Nwankwo, who was kidnapped on May 10, 2025, from Ikwo Local Government Area of Ebonyi State. 
During interrogation, Akonobi reportedly confessed to committing the crime in collaboration with four other accomplices who are currently at large. He alleged that the victim was taken to Enugu State and handed over to the said native doctor, claiming they acted as agents for him.
According to the suspect, the alleged native doctor paid the sum of One Million Naira (₦1,000,000) for each virgin girl delivered to him. He further confessed that the six-year-old victim was murdered and used for ritual purposes.
The suspect also disclosed that Obieze Ezeani has since been arrested by operatives of the Enugu State Police Command, a development that has sparked widespread public outrage, especially following the circulation of related videos on social media.
The Anambra State Police Command reassured the public that efforts have been intensified to track down and arrest the remaining suspects, stressing that all those involved in the heinous crime will be brought to justice.
Further updates, the Command said, will be communicated as investigations progress.
