…it maybe a win-win situation for the APC as two major candidates step down for APC candidates
Over 1.48million voters in the Federal Capital Territory FCT are expected to vote in fresh Area Council chairmen, their deputies and councillors today, February 21, 2026.
According to INEC, 1.58m voters pick PVCs as FCT elects council chairmen, councillors today.
Few days to the election, the Bwari Area Council PDP chairmanship candidate stepped down for his APC opponent.
In the same vein, the richest area council in Abuja, AMAC’s PDP candidate also threw in the towel for APC candidate.
From all indications it may just be a win win situation for the ruling party in Abuja.
The commission revealed that 1,680,315 people registered for the polls, while 1,587,025 PVCs were collected as of February 10.
It said the development shows strong voter readiness, but stressed that only those with valid PVCs will vote.
INEC noted that all six area councils recorded high participation, with Kuje posting the highest collection rate, while Abaji, Bwari, Gwagwalada, Kwali and Abuja Municipal also showed strong turnout.
The commission added that the Bimodal Voter Accreditation System, BVAS, will be used in all polling units and results will be transmitted electronically.
“Only duly registered voters in possession of valid PVCs will be allowed to vote,” INEC said in a statement on Friday.
Voters will elect chairmen and councillors across the councils.
Security agencies are expected to restrict movement during voting hours to maintain order.
