Distinguished Members of the Board of Trustees,
Our revered elders and conscience-keepers of the party,
Ladies and Gentlemen.
I warmly welcome you all to the 86th Meeting of the Board of Trustees of our great party, the Peoples Democratic Party. I thank you sincerely for honouring this meeting despite your many commitments and the demands placed upon you as leaders, elders, and stabilizing pillars of our party.
This gathering comes at a defining moment in the life of the PDP; one that calls not for emotion or haste, but for wisdom, institutional memory, and calm reflection. As the Board of Trustees, we are not merely participants in party affairs; we are the custodians of its soul, its values, and its constitutional integrity.
Our party has recently recorded significant milestones in its ongoing process of internal reorganization and strengthening. Across the country, we have successfully conducted ward and local government congresses, which were largely peaceful, transparent, and reflective of the democratic
spirit that defines our party. These exercises demonstrate that the PDP remains deeply rooted in participatory democracy and the will of its members at the grassroots.
We are optimistic that the state congresses scheduled to take place this weekend will further consolidate this process and strengthen our party structures across the federation. These congresses are not merely administrative exercises; they are critical steps in renewing the legitimacy, inclusiveness, and vitality of our great party.
In the same spirit, preparations are well underway for our National Convention scheduled for the 29th and 30th of March, which will provide an opportunity for the party to further reposition itself and reaffirm its commitment to democratic principles, unity, and national service.
It is also important to acknowledge the recent judgments of the Court of Appeal, which have affirmed the legality and authority of the National Caretaker Committee led by Alhaji Abdulrahman Mohammed. These judicial pronouncements have provided much-needed clarity and stability within the party. As a law-abiding political organization, we respect the decisions of the courts and will continue to conduct our affairs in accordance with the rule of law and the provisions of our party constitution.
The Board of Trustees also emphasizes the importance of strengthening our membership base through the ongoing electronic registration of party members. This initiative is critical to modernizing our party’s membership system, improving transparency, and ensuring an accurate and credible database of our members nationwide. The Board therefore urges all State Chairmen and Zonal Chairmen, working in collaboration with other party leaders at all levels, to intensify efforts in mobilizing and encouraging members across the federation to participate actively in the e-registration exercise. A strong and properly documented membership is fundamental to building a more organized, responsive, and formidable party as we continue to reposition the PDP for greater national service.
Distinguished members, moments like this require maturity, patience, and collective responsibility. Our party has faced challenges before, yet history has repeatedly shown that the PDP possesses the resilience, depth, and national spread required to overcome difficulties and emerge stronger.
As elders of this great party, our responsibility is to provide guidance, promote unity, and ensure that our decisions always protect the long-term interests of the PDP and the Nigerian people who look to us for credible leadership.
Let us therefore approach our deliberations today with open minds, a spirit of reconciliation, and a firm commitment to strengthening the unity and stability of our party.
Once again, I welcome you all and wish us fruitful deliberations.

The Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) has commenced a city-wide desilting of drainage channels following heavy torrential rainfalls that triggered flash floods across parts of the nation’s capital.
Inspecting the ongoing clearance operations along the Airport Expressway on Thursday, Mr Richard Dauda, acting Executive Secretary of the Federal Capital Development Authority (FCDA), said the exercise was directed by the FCT Minister, Mr Nyesom Wike.
The directive followed a flash flood that flooded the Airport Expressway on Tuesday.
According to Dauda, the effort is to mitigate flood risks during the peak of the rainy season.
Dauda noted that while recent downpours align with earlier meteorological warnings and climate change trends, the Abuja Master Plan inherently recognises certain areas, including the Airport Expressway axis as flood plains.
He assured residents that while resilient infrastructure was originally built to handle high water volumes, human activities have severely compromised its efficiency.
“Some of these drainage facilities over time have been silted. Part of the cause is residents dumping refuse into drainage channels.
“When rain falls, it washes down polythene bags, waste, and even large objects that block the outlets,” he said.
Dauda highlighted two major human factors aggravating the flash floods: illegal development and widespread infrastructure vandalism.
Exposing a major choke point along the expressway, Dauda pointed to a triple-cell box culvert meant to discharge a powerful stream flowing from the Galadima Roundabout.
He explained that a private developer had illegally constricted the waterway further downstream by constructing retaining walls to expand a personal plot.
“What that causes is that the volume of water that ought to pass no longer passes, causing detention, backflow, and eventual flooding.
“To restore adequate discharge capacity, we must remove the structures built by this developer,” he said.
Dauda also decried the theft of metal gully inlet covers by vandals, which allows large debris to flow directly into underground drains instead of being sieved at the surface.
“When vandals steal these covers, it’s like stealing from yourself as a taxpayer,” he remarked.
To permanently curb the theft, he revealed that the FCDA is exploring replacement materials made from non-recyclable compounds rather than steel or cast iron.
The FCDA boss confirmed that workers were already desilting trapezoidal drains, U-channels, and culvert outlets along the Airport Expressway, with plans to reconstruct damaged points where necessary.
Dauda urged Abuja residents to stop dumping refuse into waterways, warning that government infrastructure can only protect the city if public cooperation is guaranteed.
The Federal Capital Territory Administration, FCTA has began disilting of accumulated silt, sand and other objects blocking drains are being removed.
