The couple, who tied the knot in July 2022, are now in the process of formally dissolving their union, marking the end of their relationship.

While he did not go into extensive detail about the reasons behind the split, the announcement confirmed that divorce proceedings have already been initiated.

Since their marriage, Okporo and Giglio had been known for sharing moments from their relationship publicly, drawing attention as one of the visible same-sex couples involving a Nigerian activist based abroad.

Their union had also been seen by some as symbolic, given Okporo’s advocacy work around asylum and LGBTQ+ rights.

As of the time of reporting, neither Okporo nor Giglio has provided further clarification on the circumstances leading to the breakup.

The separation marks a new chapter for both individuals, with supporters and followers expressing mixed reactions online ranging from surprise to messages of support.
