In a resignation letter dated March 26, 2026, and addressed to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Adelabu formally stepped down from his role in the Federal Executive Council.
The letter, issued from the Office of the Honourable Minister, was routed through the Secretary to the Government of the Federation.
Adelabu expressed appreciation to the president for the opportunity to serve, noting that it had been a privilege contributing to efforts aimed at strengthening Nigeria’s power sector under the current administration.
“I write with profound gratitude to formally tender my resignation as the Honourable Minister of Power,” he stated.
He explained that his decision was driven by his ambition to contest for the governorship of Oyo State, adding that stepping down would allow him to fully focus on the political race.
“My decision to resign is to enable me fully pursue my aspiration to contest for the office of Governor of Oyo State,” the letter read.
Adelabu also reaffirmed his respect for the president, thanking him for the confidence reposed in him during his time in office.
