Dismissed Nigerian Soldier, Two Others Arrested For Car Snatching In Kaduna

The Nigeria Police Force on Friday said it has dismantled a notorious armed robbery syndicate in Kaduna State, arresting a dismissed soldier and two other suspects.

The suspects, identified as Abubakar Musa, 36; Hassan Umar, 30; and Joshua Raphael, 20, were apprehended by operatives of the Force Intelligence Department – Special Tactical Squad (FID-STS) on March 16, 2026.

Announcing in a statement signed by the Force Public Relations Officer, DCP Anthony Okon Placid, it disclosed that the ringleader, Musa, is a dismissed Army Corporal who had been posing as a serving personnel to facilitate the gang’s criminal operations.

Placid said, “Preliminary investigations revealed that the principal suspect, Abubakar Musa, is a dismissed Corporal of the Nigerian Army who has been impersonating a serving soldier to evade detection while carrying out armed robbery operations with his accomplices.”

According to the police, the syndicate specialized in snatching vehicles and altering their registration details to prevent tracking by the original owners or security agencies.

Items recovered from the suspects include ten vehicles of various brands. Among the recovered fleet are Toyota Hilux trucks, Toyota Corolla cars, a Toyota RAV4 SUV, a Lexus car, a Pontiac Vibe GT, and a Honda vehicle.

The police noted that several of the vehicles were discovered without registration numbers at the time of the recovery.

The Force PRO added that efforts are currently being intensified to arrest other fleeing members of the gang.

“Investigations are ongoing to apprehend other fleeing members of the syndicate and recover additional exhibits,” the statement added.

The Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Disu, commended the operatives for the breakthrough and reiterated the Force’s commitment to protecting the lives and property of Nigerians.

Gunmen suspected to be bandits on Wednesday abducted the Head of the Medical Services, General Hospital, New Bussa in Borgu Local Government Area of Niger State, Dr. Tony Eghagagara.

The spokesman for the state police command, Wasiu Abiodun, confirmed the incident in a statement on Friday in Minna.

Abiodun said Eghagagara was kidnapped at 9:30 p.m. by the hoodlums in his private hospital in Wawa, also in Borgu LGA.

He added that a police tactical team had been mobilised for the rescue operation.

Police arrest woman for refusing to return N2,000 mistakenly sent to her

A 40-year-old woman, Isoken Idunueko, was on Friday arraigned at the Iyaganku Chief Magistrates’ Court in Ibadan for failing to return N2,040 mistakenly sent to her bank account by a third party.

The defendant, who lives in the Elebu area, Ibadan, is charged with theft.

She, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.

The prosecutor, Foluke Adedosu, told the court that the defendant, in February at Oke-Itunu, Mokola, Ibadan, stole N2,040 that was mistakenly sent to her Zenith Bank account No. 2111699080.

Ms Adedosu alleged that she refused to return the money to the owner when the complainant, Sandra Okwueze, contacted her.

She said the offence contravened section 383 and was punishable under section 390(9) of the Criminal Code Laws of Oyo State 2000.

The magistrate, A. T. Oyediji, admitted her to bail of N500,000 with two sureties to post the same bond.

Ms Oyediji said one of the sureties must be a landed property owner who lives in the house.

She, thereafter, adjourned the matter until June 2 for hearing.

Troops repel attack, rescue abductees in Sokoto

Troops of the Nigerian Army have repelled a terrorist attack and rescued abducted civilians during a patrol in Goronyo Local Government Area of Sokoto State.

Details of the operation were made known in a post shared on X on Thursday by security analyst Zagazola Makama, who cited security sources.

According to the post, the troops drawn from 8 Division Garrison and operating from the Forward Operating Base in Goronyo were on a fighting patrol to Gorau village at about 2:50 am on April 21 when they encountered armed terrorists.

On contact, the soldiers engaged the attackers in a gun battle and overpowered them, forcing the terrorists to flee and abandon four kidnapped victims.

According to Makama, preliminary findings indicated that the attackers, numbering about 20, had earlier invaded the village, killing three residents and leaving three others with gunshot injuries.

“The injured victims were quickly evacuated for medical treatment, while the rescued abductees were safely reunited with their families,” Makama wrote.

Security sources said troops have since intensified clearance operations in the area to prevent further attacks and restore calm in the community.
