Portugal captain Cristiano Ronaldo has confirmed that the ongoing 2026 FIFA World Cup will be the final World Cup of his illustrious career.
The 41-year-old made the announcement on Sunday during a pre-match press conference ahead of Portugal’s Round of 16 encounter against Spain, bringing an end to speculation about his future on the international stage.
Ronaldo’s confirmation comes days after his sister, Katia, suggested that the Al Nassr forward was preparing to retire from international football after the tournament. 
Addressing reporters, the five-time Ballon d’Or winner made it clear that he has no plans to feature at the 2030 FIFA World Cup.
“Yes, it’s my last one. Let’s go and enjoy it,” Ronaldo said.
The Portuguese legend is the oldest player to have featured in six different FIFA World Cup tournaments, a record that further cements his place among the greatest footballers in the history of the game.
