The President also commiserated with Yusuf’s family, friends, associates and colleagues over what he described as a painful loss.

Tinubu described the late NPC chairman as a distinguished son of Niger State, a consummate public servant and patriot who devoted a significant part of his life to serving his community, state and country.

The President highlighted Yusuf’s extensive record in public service, noting that he previously served as Executive Chairman of Wushishi Local Government Area.

He also served in the political and administrative affairs of Niger State and was a member of the Board of the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC).

Yusuf was also appointed Special Adviser on Political Affairs to the Governor of Niger State before his appointment as Chairman of the National Population Commission.

“Dr Aminu Yusuf was a loyal public servant, a patriot and a distinguished son of Niger State whose life was defined by service and commitment to the common good,” President Tinubu said.

“His passing is a painful loss, not only to his family and the people of Niger State, but also to the National Population Commission and the entire nation.”

The President acknowledged that although Yusuf’s tenure as chairman of the NPC was brief, he brought to the commission a clear vision and commitment to strengthening the institution.

According to Tinubu, Yusuf was committed to ensuring that Nigeria has reliable demographic data needed for effective national planning and sustainable development.

“Although his tenure as Chairman of the NPC was brief, he brought to the office a clear vision and an earnest commitment to strengthening the Commission and ensuring that Nigeria has the reliable demographic data required for sound planning and development,” the President said.

“We shall remember him for his service, his dedication and his contributions to our nation.”

Tinubu further urged the leadership and staff of the National Population Commission to preserve the legacy of the late chairman by continuing with reforms and efforts aimed at strengthening the institution.

The President said Yusuf’s commitment to institutional development should remain an inspiration to those continuing the work of the commission.

Tinubu also offered prayers for the deceased, asking Almighty Allah to forgive his shortcomings, grant him Al-Jannatul Firdaus and give his family, colleagues and loved ones the strength to bear the loss.

“I pray that Almighty Allah will forgive his shortcomings, grant him Al-Jannatul Firdaus and give his family, colleagues and loved ones the fortitude to bear this irreparable loss,” the President added.

The death of Yusuf comes at a significant time for the National Population Commission, a key federal institution responsible for producing population and demographic data used in national planning, development and policymaking.

His passing has therefore triggered condolences from government officials and stakeholders who recognise the importance of the commission’s work to Nigeria’s development planning.
