Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke has ordered security agencies to arrest those responsible for the killing of Olalekan Oyeyemi, popularly known as Ajagungbade Emir, following violence in Ile-Ife.
Oyeyemi was reportedly shot dead by suspected hoodlums on Sunday during a dispute linked to the control of a motor garage in the ancient city. The incident has caused tension in parts of Ile-Ife.
Following the killing, Adeleke directed security agencies to move into the affected areas, restore peace and prevent further violence.
The governor gave the directives in a statement issued by his spokesperson, Olawale Rasheed, on Sunday.
He instructed the Commissioner of Police to ensure that everyone connected to the killing is identified, arrested and made to face the law.
“Law and order must be maintained. There will be no sacred cows as all culprits will be brought to book,” Adeleke said.
As part of measures to prevent another confrontation, the governor also ordered the groups involved in the dispute to leave the affected motor parks immediately.
Security agencies were equally directed to maintain their presence around the parks and other affected locations to ensure that calm returns to the area.
Adeleke assured residents that his administration would take necessary steps to prevent the situation from escalating and urged members of the public to remain calm while security personnel carry out their duties.
“We will ensure restoration of peace in all the affected parks and areas. The security agencies are under instruction to ensure the sustainability of peace at all costs,” he said.
The governor also announced the return of the Park Management System as part of efforts to improve the administration of motor parks and garages throughout Osun State.
According to Adeleke, an Executive Order will be issued to provide the framework for the new arrangement and strengthen the management of parks across the state.
“We are reintroducing the Park Management System. I will soon issue an executive order to give effect to the new management system to manage parks and garages across the state.”
