Suspected thugs allegedly attacked supporters of Peter Obi and Rabiu Kwankwaso during a political mobilisation rally in Warri, Delta State, disrupting campaign activities in the area.
The incident was brought to public attention by Esther Umoh, identified as a photographer associated with Obi, who alleged in a post on X that the attackers were politically sponsored.
According to Umoh, the alleged attack targeted members of the entourage of the Delta State governorship candidate, alongside supporters of the Obidient and Kwankwasiyya movements who were campaigning in Warri. 
She wrote that the group came under attack during the morning’s political activities, alleging that the assailants opened fire on several members of the campaign team and other supporters.
A video circulated alongside the allegations showed a chaotic scene, with a voice heard accusing the attackers of being thugs and calling on supporters to confront them.
The circumstances surrounding the reported shooting, including the identity of the alleged attackers and whether anyone was injured, were not independently established in the account.
The development comes amid heightened political mobilisation ahead of Nigeria’s 2027 general elections, with supporters of Obi and Kwankwaso expanding their grassroots activities across the country.
Obi and Kwankwaso are being mobilised under the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) ticket, while their broader support structure includes members of the Obidient and Kwankwasiyya movements.
The Obi-Kwankwaso support movement recently unveiled a 59-member presidential campaign council comprising coordinators and directors drawn from across the country.
The reported incident adds to concerns about security during political activities as parties and support groups intensify preparations for the 2027 elections.
